How Relevant Is Our Lady Of Fatima Today ?

I believe Fatima is easily the most significant revelation of the last hundred years. The rosary campaign in Austria led to the Soviets withdrawing peacefully in 1955. One of the few times they did that during the Cold War. Cardinal DeJesus of Rio De Janeiro led the rosary campaign that helped bring down the pro-Soviet Goulart regime in Brazil in the 1960’s. He credited the victory to the intercession of Our Lady Of Fatima. From the 1950’s up until the breakup of the Soviet Union, Our Lady Of Fatima was a bastion of hope for those who had fled communism.
Today with wickedness and hatred of God growing rapidly in our own country, we need to say as people did 90 years ago "Our Lady Of Fatima pray for us".

I hate to break this to you, but God does not speak to us through Saint Mary, if anything she would be speaking for herself.

Michael
Even though Our Lady was speaking at Fatima, she was relaying what God wanted to say.

The age of revelation is closed.

That was determined when the church condemned Montanism.

Michael
The words of one who fears to deal with the fact of Our Lady of Fatima.

The Orthodox clearly prefer the ways of collaboration with the Soviets and corruption to any consideration of the work of Fatima which was to undo that system and reveal the unholy alliance between the Patriarchs and the KGB.

Yeah, and some people put Fatima right up there with the Bible.
Perhaps someone, somewhere, would fit that description, but I don’t believe anyone here has said anything to that degree. If you prefer, you can deny the historical fact of 70,000+ witnesses to the miracle of the sun on October 13, 1917. You can deny the credibility or honesty of Sr. Lucia dos Santos. You can deny what Pope John Paul II said himself about the Fatima events and the message. I and many others chose to believe because of the overwhelming evidence supporting these events and the necessity of spreading this message of hope in this time of chaos and “diabolical disorientation” (Sr. Lucy’s words). Like I’ve said before, if it’s true, then why not accept it? Even if you can’t decide if it’s true or not, what will it hurt to try Our Lady of Fatima’s solution to today’s evils?

The gentleman is correct, and the one recourse I see, given all the Fatima disputes I see here, is to keep preaching, and implementing, the rosary crusade for the conversion of Russia, and, I would add, of this country as well.

Yet, there are gay pride parades down the Via Nazionale but the Homosexual Lobby can’t get a permit in Moscow.

Orthodoxy is a required subject in all Russian schools but don’t mention God in America.

Either the Pope did the Consecration and Sister Lucia said it was done, or we’re all being deceived. And, George Bush ordered the attacks on 911, there are UFOs that are penetrating our atmosphere daily, those really are black helicopters following you, and you should get an aluminum foil hat to protect you from the new machines that can brainwash you.
First off, the extra theories you added don’t contribute anything to your argument, they seem to be a guilt by association technique.

Second, if there is solid evidence of Sr. Lucia denying all of the failed attempts to consecrate Russia (actually Pius XII was the only pope who attempted to consecrate Russia by name but he didn’t unite with his bishops), and all of the sudden a few typed letters start circulating in 1989 contradicting all of that previous testimony, why shouldn’t we raise our eyebrows? Looking at that, one could say either 1) Sr. Lucy was lying, 2) Sr. Lucy was mistaken before, even though she was the one who was entrusted by Our Lady to carry the Fatima message, 3) The letters weren’t from Sr. Lucy, or 4) Sr. Lucy had no idea what she was talking about so nobody knows if the 1984 consecration of the world sufficed for Russia. Out of those options, the most reasonable to me is number 3.

As for “we’re all being deceived,” not all of us are. Someone has got to be wrong. If one looks at the signs of the times, is it really so shocking and unbelievable that there could be men working in the Church heirarchy with evil (or misguided) motives? Pope St. Pius X warned about dangers from within; was he just a crack-pot conspiracy theorist?

Labeling the controversies around the conscecration of Russia and the Third Secret a “conspiracy theory” is just a cheap way of sweeping these issues under the rug. If people actually took the time to examine the evidence with an unbiased eye they should recognize that there are many things that don’t add up.

No, the conversion of Russia to an Eastern Catholic Church or the reunification of East and West would suffice. Lord knows she worked through JPII, the bishop in white to bring about the fall of Soviet Communism. There is still work to do to bring about about the end of Orthodox collaboration with every Russian ambition to exploit and dominate the Slavic peoples.
Sounds like Cold War fear mongering to me.

You do realize there were millions of Orthdodox Martyrs under the Soviet regime don’t you?

Although I don’t side with Fr Robert Fox, he does relates in the link above that some Orthodox bishops actually participated in John Paul II’s consecration of the world, and also that certain of the Orthodox came to Fatima years ago and purchased land. I hardly think the Orthodox were “Montanists” who didn’t know that the deposit of Revelation is closed.

Look, you are arguing that a Catholic is required to believe a PRIVATE revelation.

Guess what, we’re not required to believe it. Everything we’re required to believe was given to us before the death of St. John the Apostle.

Ready for a shock? I believe she did visit Fatima.

And the belief that the Vatican is covering up the “real third secret” is a conspiracy theory.:whacky:

Since no one bishop represents Orthodoxy like the Pope represents Catholicism, this means nothing to the Orthodox.

Well, that is not entirely truthful. It does mean something. At the very least it means that the Orthodox are divided on the matter. It also means that some Orthodox hierarchs not only recognize the spiritual authority of fatima and of JPII but also cooperated with the fulfillment of the demands of Our Lady. No, it is not the same as the pope speaking. But the Orthodox couldnt speak with the authority of the pope even if they wanted to. None have the competence to speak with such authority because there is only one pope, from whom they have cut themselves off for nearly a thousand years.

No this doesnt mean nothing. It is just that the Orthodox are hard pressed to mean something even if they try.

No it is not fear mongering. It is a fact that the MP was very close to the KGB if not KGB himself. And there has never been a renunciation of this evil past. Also, it is quite clear that the present MP and Putin are very close and do each others bidding. The MP give Putin moral legitimacy and Putin oppresses the Catholics for the MP. It is all very tidy and wicked.

And, there is no mistaking that Putin is pressing for economic and political domination in the slavic sphere just as the MP is pressing his false authority over the same region.

The spat over Estonia and the tension in Romania are just the tip of the iceburg.

While the East bedazzles the populace with incense and liturgics, in the sanctuary it is plotting its political maneuvers.

Let’s recap. The last four or five Popes lied about and/or covered up a revelation from the Blessed Virgin for unexplained and inexplicable reasons. Sr. Lucia was coerced into denying or twisting her own revelation. Any Russian Orthodox that were not killed by the communists must have been faithless and unholy. And only a few (or one?) fringe priest(s) know the truth, for which they have been shoved asided by the conspiratorial leaders of Christendom.

This thread is getting pretty far out there.

Yeah, but isnt it fun?

If you had any charity, you would not put words into my mouth. I don’t know why I’m even bothering to respond to this but let me say it one last time. I have NEVER said that anyone was REQUIRED under pain of sin or damnation to believe in the Fatima events. I have only argued the question “why not?”

As I said in the other Fatima theads, I am refraining from futher posting on these topics, at least for a time. 🙂

If anyone wants to read my last word, see my last two posts on the “Fr. Nicholas Gruner” thread. May the grace and peace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And may Our Lady of Fatima help you in all of your needs.
