How should I describe the Church's view on homosexual marriage?

Yesterday I was drawn into a conversation with my friends concerning homosexual marriages, and, having seen a CTS pamphlet which compared it to an illness, I brought up this comparison, after which I was instantly branded as a homophobe. Was I theologically correct in what I said?
