I am my cousin’s confirmation sponsor, and I’ve noticed that he’s posted things on social media that are not exactly in line with catholic beliefs (like innapropriate/offensive memes). I feel as his sponsor I should mention something to correct him. I am only 3 years older than him (I’m 18), so I kind of feel like it’s not my place to be correcting him. Should I just tell him that what he’s doing is wrong, or should I go about it another way?

What do you mean by inappropriate?
Things supporting immoral things, or things that are simply…impolite or crude?
If the latter, perhaps talk to him in private and tell him you think perhaps he should be less raunchy as he is an ambassador of sorts for Christ and His Holy Church.
If the former, still in private, tell him the proper and right teachings of the Church.

I think that you need to examine your relationship. If you are not actually providing him with guidance then you are not being a good sponsor and fulfilling your role.

That said.

I had a long talk with my cousin when I was in college and she was in high school. We talked about “Facebook is forever” and what is and is not appropriate to post on the internet…even if it’s “on private”. That is a talk that ought to happen and it’s way better from a slightly older peer.

“Wow. Seriously, dude?!?!?”

Expressed in person, with a shake of the head… can be very effective. 😉
