I was reading the comic book “The Nikopol Trilogy” and suddendly one of the charachters (a man who has gone insane and whose passion for Baudelaire reflects in his madness) starts proclaiming the “Litanies of Satan”, which, in case you don’t know, are a famous and controversial poem where the author, mostly to mock the religious hipocrisy and bigotry of Parisian society, makes a long praise of the devil as a tragic rebel, bringer of knowkedge and protector of distressed souls (somewhat of a Miltonian satan, to be clear)

My problem is…what now?
As the title itself says, how should I see this? A mere reference to a great poet, or something (the comic) to stay away from?

Well…as an European myself, it’s hard to judge from here, honestly 😃
Also, yes, I am aware that it ties within the surrealism of the comic (and said surrealism is, among others, the reason why Bilal is, to me, the best French-style comic book artist )
My point, however, was a bit more specific: should I “stay on guard” and “rebuke” the comic book, as it contains an elogy to Satan, or trat it as a reference to a great poet?

Pleasure is mine.
Don’t know how representative it is of Britain, but I do read 2000ad…😃
