Hello! A friend of mine and I are wondering how we should address a recently ordained Ukrainian Catholic subdeacon that we know. Is the title Reverend Subdeacon used in the Ukrainian Catholic Church, or would it be best to call him Brother? Thanks! 😃

I heard the term “Brother” could also be used or am I mistaken?

Does the address change from the Romanians, to the Ruthenians and the Melkites in the United States?

Subdeacons are not styled ‘Reverend’ nor ‘Brother’. If you choose to do so, you could address one as ‘Subdeacon Leroy’ - but, as a practical matter, he would ordinarily just be called ‘Leroy’.

And that is true of all the Eastern Churches. Some of the Oriental Churches would address a subdeacon by his title (usually in their vernacular) and personal name - but none would prefix it by Reverend or call him Brother.
