It depends…
In the Eastern Church, there are 2 months that are considered “Mary’s Months” because of the 2 Feasts, August and October.
For the Feast of the Dormition, we begin with a 2 week fast and the celebrate the Feast of the Dormition with each family bringing a bouquet of fresh flowers.
In some churchs, a burial tomb is erected and an embroidered picture of Mary’s Dormition is carried in procession and placed in the tomb for veneration by the Faithful.
There is a 10 day Festal period that follows this Feast.
In October, there are many prayer services in honor of the Mother of God and the Feast of Her Protection. My parish is named after this Feast and we celebrate with Vespers and a big parish dinner.
