How Should We Honor The Sabbath?

I’ve been wondering this alot lately, especially after reading some Christian fiction where the main character had a very strict view of honoring the Sabbath, so I thought I’d bring this question here.

How are we to honor the Sabbath? Do we do what Jews do and avoid all types of work? Or is it just enough to go to Mass on Saturday night or Sunday morning? And how does everyone here honor the Sabbath?

Currently, Sundays are the most relaxed day in our house. In the fall we put a fire in the fireplace and spend the afternoon watching football and talking. This time of year I spend alot of Sunday afternoons in the yard, pulling weeds and talking to God. Another favorite activity on Sundays is curling up with a good book. But sometimes I do end up doing some chores and sometimes I need to catch up on a project or two before the new week begins.

(name removed by moderator)ut? Should I schedule my housework so I don’t have any on Sunday? And is it okay to do work for my business? And if you’re supposed to avoid work on the Sabbath, what activites are acceptable? Like would watching football be wrong?

Thanks for reading this and I can’t wait to see what you guys have to say! 🙂

I avoid working for pay on a Sunday and almost never shop (mea culpa!) except for calling into the Bakery on the way home from Mass ( they are non-Christians so Sunday is not their holy day, if they have one).

I also do not do work on any commercial websites on Sundays (I’m a web developer), only updating on my charitable ( Catholic ) sites sometimes.

After Mass, Sundays is for family time or relaxing although I might fold clothes and do some ironing while watching a movie with my husband.
