How should we prepare for the end times?

I read up an article just now, and this self-proclaimed prophet who is a Catholic is predicting that the Third World War will start on May 13th 2017 and will end on October 13th 2017; significant dates to Our Lady of Fatima. I don’t know if this is true or not but apparently this ‘‘prophet’’ has predicted Trump’s victory (which came to pass), and that a significant event involving US and Syria will occur sometime around Good Friday 2017 (which also came to pass - US launched missiles on Syria) and now he predicts that the Third World War will start in less than a month’s time - nuclear war which basically means many will be killed.

I’m a bit skeptical of this but looking at the situation and news, there’s a chance that war could spark any moment this year. How should Catholics prepare for the end times?
 
Who really cares if it is the end of the world or not? (It’s not). We are called to live our lives each as if it is the last one. False prophets come and go; love God, keep the Commandments and don’t sweat the small stuff.

Great point. Should we prepare physically though? Like stocking up on food, resources or moving to safe places like Fiji where hardly any nukes would land nearby?

We have been in the end times since Jesus’ ascension into Heaven. Everyday could be your last so live today as if it were your last. This does not mean you don’t work for the future, though, so keep paying your bills, etc.

The Bible tells us that we will hear tales of wars and disasters but these will not necessarily be the signs that the end is imminent. We hear more of these things today because of the availability of constant and immediate news through multiple media sources. Horrible things have been happening for centuries: Jerusalem was destroyed in AD 70, the plague decimated the population of Europe, WWI-the war to end all wars, WWII and the nuclear bomb, Communism rose, Communism fell in Europe.

I’m no history student but with a little research I could go on but don’t want to bother. The point is all these things and more have happened and the world has not ended. “The End” has been predicted by myriads of those “prophets” and somehow the Timex kept on ticking each time.

Catholics should prepare for the end times by praying every day, reading scripture and other spiritual readings daily, going to Mass as often as possible (every Sunday at a minimum), going to Confession whenever they are aware of mortal sin (more often if possible), developing and practicing the virtues, Beatitudes, and Works of Mercy. Catholics should get back Home to the Church, get back to the basics of Christianity and Catholicism, stop sinning and teach others to do the same.

We’ve been in the “end times” since the Birth of Christ. I wouldn’t put any faith in anything someone “comes up with”. Only God knows when the actual End of the World will be. People have been falsely predicting it for ages. TRUST God and leave it all up to Him. Stay in the “state of Grace” at ALL times and Pray for all. We never know when our “End” will come. A friend just died of a sudden heart attack. My husband died instantly in an accident. God Bless, Memaw

Actually, we have been in the end times since the resurrection of Christ (or is it the ascension?), but that is a technicality.
 
End times are irreverent. Live your life knowing that it will end and appreciate every day you are given.
 
Build a close relationship with God and He will take care of things.
 
Whenever Mary lets us know we are on the wrong path, headed towards a bad situation, she tells us to pray.

War may or may not break out–I happen to believe it won’t–but we can’t do any more to stop it than to pray, can we?

And many already have a stash of extra food in case of storms, electricity outages, etc. There’s not much more most of us can do there, either.

Pray and be in God’s peace.
 
There IS on common point in all end time predictions…NONE has ever been right!

Unless Russia or China suddenly wants to commit planetary suicide, a global nuclear war is very unlikely. N Korea can’t even reach Japan yet, they are more likley to blow themselves up!

A link to your original source would be helpful, it sounds like clickbait…
 
Learn to live in the present moment, it’s all that really exist and is where God is always.

Worrying about end times will only do more harm than good for your spiritual life.

Pray and receive the Sacraments, which should bring you joy and not anxiety.

It would never hurt to save a little food and water, but don’t go wild. Some of my friends listened to the Y2K prophecies and had 3 closets loaded with food. They talked about it a lot and almost seemed obsessed. And look what happened–they had 3 closets loaded with freeze-dried food.

They were devout Christians, though, who knew where their priorities lied. They already lived their lives putting Christ first in all things. They had already laid that Firm Foundation. No one can build on a foundation which doesn’t already exist. so one’s life must be firm in Christ, so when the storms come–and they will, for Jesus has told us they would–we will not topple. In other words, we shouldn’t wait til the last minute or until a disaster comes to try and build a mature and strong relationship with our Lord–although God would more than welcome those who come to him at anytime and under any circumstances.

Everyone’s advice here is good.

You can’t.

Something is going to catch up with everybody personally that they can’t prepare for, most likely in their own bodies. And the great adventure of Human Life ends with each of us DEAD. Full stop.

Three consecutive Popes, if memory serves, have stated that these are not the final times.

Prayer, penance and the sacraments, those are the preparations you need. Leave the mountain cabins and guns, etc, to those who think human life is an action film.

There are no Oscar figurines or Golden Globes in Life Everlasting, but there are golden halos on heads.

I’m unlikely to be one of the people nuked, but depending on the level of fallout I might have to arm wrestle with the evil twin that grows out of my shoulder.

Flourishing wildlife around Chernobyl suggests - tentatively - that nuclear fallout might not be quite as severe as expected, minus the initial surge of radiation. Life expectancy would decrease but animal populations seems to have adapted quite well and due to the absence of human activity, that particular stretch of land between Ukraine and Belarus has become a habitat for all sorts of large mammals: brown bear, grey wolves, red fox, beaver, bison, etc. The landscape is gradually reverting to being a bog terrain like it was prior to industrialization.

Now that The Sarcophagus - the largest object ever to be moved by people in human history - has been completed, further contamination in the area is safe for the next 100 years.

There is a modern tendency to associate a potential nuclear war with eschatology, but there might just as easily be a nuclear war and then the continuation of the world.
