How strict should the Church be in maintaining orthodoxy?

When a member of the clergy, either disagrees with the papacy or unknowingly spreads some form of potential heresy then how should the rest of the hierarchy react?

I’m particularly interested in when parish priests spread heresy to parishioners that might not know better or be unwilling to question.

I’m not going to mention anything specific as I’m not interested in making this about something else.

It’s not very useful to comment on hypotheticals then. The answer to your question and to most hypothetical questions is “it all depends.” Without more details and left only with the hypothetical, which could be missing any number of key details which would alter the answer we might give, it’s really not possible to say one way or the other. Mileage may vary with things like this.
