How the attendance for the All Saints Mass you attended today?

I went to early morning Mass at my parish as I normally do. I would guess it had 1/2-2/3 the number of a normal Sunday Mass. Not at all like the standing room only we receive for Ash Wednesday – which is not a HDoO.

Sometimes I think my parish should look closely at why so many Catholics attend Mass on Ash Wednesday – even when they are not required to, and apply the secret to Sunday Masses too.
 
Ash Wednesday does seem to get the people out all right. Probably the same as yours, but Mass was at weekday Mass times instead of Sunday Mass times. My parish does a vigil, weekday times on the day and an extra evening Mass on the day. I don’t know how well attended the others were.
 
Like it is every year. About the same 1/2 to 2/3 filled of one Mass out of the 3 Sunday Masses that we have. And no lines at the next confessional session.

Wife was at daytime Mass. 1/4 full. The other Mass is at 7 PM which I will attend. Last year it was 1/2 full.

So what about it?

I was at the 6:30 am and I’d say there was probably 100 to 150 people. There are 3 or 4 more Masses there today for the holyday.

Went to the 6:30 AM mass - probably about 30 people. Probably about 15-20 percent of normal Sunday mass attendance. There are two other masses though and the one at 7:00 PM is the most popular, which is the one I usually attend.
 
Holy days usually attract a different crowd. I attend one close to work that has a 7:00 AM Mass. That’s not my regular parish, so I rarely get to see who attends my normal parish on Holy Days, nor have any frame of reference to know if the one I’m at is well or poorly attended.
 
Ash Wednesday will always draw a larger crowd I think because of the Solemn season of Lent that it represents. Surprisingly had to remind people that today was a Holy day of obligation. Still the church had a good amount of people, and had two more Masses to go. Hopefully people will remember the Saints who are important in their lives.🦋

Ash Wednesday isn’t a Holy Day of Obligation because you don’t HAVE to go to Mass. You can just receive ashes on the street if you want.
Of course going to Mass is more appropriate. Also Maundy Thursday and Good Friday aren’t Holy Days of Obligation. Not sure why Thursday isn’t, I believe it is because they are liturgically considered one as the Pascaal Triduum and Friday isn’t a Mass at all. Following Thursday until Easter Sunday there is no formal dismissal of the Mass.
 
To be honest, I think Catholics are motivated on Ash Wednesday by the fact that they will get the ashes on their forehead and have that visible sign of being a Catholic. It’s like the “I Voted” sticker that you get by going to the polls on Election Day. It makes you feel part of something.
 
So what is the purpose of this question?

Honestly I do understand Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of obligation, I was just stating why people attend Mass more than others on that day.ashes on the street, I’d rather go into church. Yes I do no you can get them on the street. God Bless
 
The place was packed.

Of course, that was because it was attended by all the students and teachers from the Catholic elementary school. My sons (out of school due to storm-related power outage) and I joined them. Many students were in costumes of various saints. Great homily about the faith and courage of saints and how we should all be courageous in our faith.

Some of the students in the pews were at times a little fidgety and/or distracting, but as the Eucharistic Prayer began, they became reverent and quiet – so good to see! Praise God!

Protestant ministers were handing out ashes at the commuter train station here a year or two ago. I went to church like a normal Catholic and got them from a priest.
 
We had six Masses to choose from. I went to the 7:00 am Mass as I generally attend the regular daily Mass at 7:15. Today happens to be the day of the school Mass so there was another at 8:50. There are two more today and there were two last evening. Six Masses with one priest.
 
I attended mass at my youngest child’s school parish today.

She sang in choir, it was special to see all the children. Many other moms were in attendance too.
 
I would say a little over half of the attendance from last Sunday, but that can be a little skewed because in our diocese the month of October is when they do the ‘parish census’ and more people show up during Masses that month than at other times of the year. So with this being November and a work day (I scooted over on my lunch break), the fact that we had as many for Mass as we did compared to the October mass attendance was a good sign.
 
It’s hard to know. My church had a vigil last night, a Mass this morning, and a Mass tonight. So people probably go when they can. Personally I think all Solmnities should be Holy Days of obligation.
