I just found this recent article (see below) about infiltration of the Church by Alinsky-ite leftists, pro-abortion advocates, heath care rationing government takeover activists, etc… This kind of thing really bothers me, and causes me to wonder if the Church will even survive, and if I should even officially join the Church at all. (As I posted elsewhere, I’m currently in RCIA.) Maybe someone who knows history better than I do can help me understand this? Has the Church successfully dealt with this kind of thing before, and if so, does she still have the tools, and the leadership, to do so again?

I came back to the Church 5 yrs ago.
Wondering which parish you will be confirmed in.

Here is a quick way to find out for yourself. You can google for some of the key words and names in the article and see if there is another article referencing it. You can find out what orthodox Catholics think of the authors by doing a google search. You can also look up some of the key words here in a forum search. I don’t know about calcath as a reputable source…not saying it isn’t, just saying I don’t know. You always want to make sure you are reading reputable Catholic sources. Hope that helps!

This is an example of the wheat and the tares.

There will always be tares in the church growing alongside the wheat.
God is going to sort it out in the end.

As a Catholic you want to learn to be discerning of what you read. Also know that some organizations call themselves Catholic but do not uphold the teaching of the Church.
Catholics in the Alliance for the Common Good is one of those.

You have to get to know the TRUTH so well you will be able to detect a counterfeit when you see it.
When looking at Catholic sources on the web, check out all the links. Are they promoting “Change” within the church, or are they promoting Catholic Teaching? Are there links to the Catechism, for example?

Know who the pro life organizations are, so you can discern a phony pro life organization.

You absolutely don’t have to worry, but put your trust in Christ’s word when He said,
“The gates of hell will not prevail against you.” The Catholic Church WILL SURVIVE because Jesus said so, and He would not lie. IT HAS survived many scandals over 2,000 yrs and is still surviving, despite the scandals and shame.

Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good is indeed one of the groups that’s mentioned on PICO’s website as helping to pass the Health Care Rationing Bill. (Same with Catholics United.) I know I consider groups like this, and people like Nancy Pelosi, to be at best “Catholic In Name Only,” and at worst deliberately anti-Catholic infiltrators. But do the bishops realize what’s going on? If I remember correctly, it’s automatic excommunication to be a member of certain anti-Catholic groups like Masons, or to procure an abortion (let alone to force taxpayer-funded abortion upon a whole country as Pelosi and her cronies are doing). So, are the leaders of these pro-Obama, pro-abortion, fake Catholic groups being excommunicated? Or are these leaders not even nominally Catholic, and the mainstream media falsely portrays them as Catholic in order to smear the Church and give cover to pro-abortion politicians and such?

I keep hearing it said that Anglicans have a problem with Rome’s authority, and in some cases that’s true. But I’m dismayed by what appears to be a lack of leadership (though I realize this might just be how it appears due to biased media coverage or other factors). I would be thrilled and relieved to see strong leadership on this issue-- from the American Bishops and from Rome.
 
Many people are attracted by Catholicism and especially by Orthodoxy, thinking one or the other is the last bastion of cultural or political conservatism.

That is NO reason to convert to either. Jesus said clearly, “My Kingdom is NOT of this world.”

No need to worry. just remember that Jesus let a traitor to be with Him until it was all done. it look like everything was lost, but it was not. it may look like the Church is sinking but watch her come out strong as ever.

when the time comes, all will be right. the Lord is the Guardian of the House. the Lord built the House. remember this? remember what Jesus said about the House being hit by the storm and so forth? you have to believe this, if you read it also believe it.
these are difficult times for the Church. but at the time of the Apostles was difficult too with the persecution, one wonder how the Church still here today.

pray for the Church and all the Clergy, that they may not be afraid of the wolves.
there is plenty of intimadation surrounding us Catholics by the world and other religious beliefs.

The Catholic Church has just come through some rough times. Thank God that traditional Catholicsm is on the rise again. Actually, I thank God…who in His Wisdom…gave Pope Benedict to us at this time.

From the time period that started with the second Vatican Council until just a few years ago, dissident organizations sprouted up like wildfire. One such organization, Call To Action, has been excommunicated by a Nebraska Bishop. Scroll down, on the site which I link to below & you’ll find a whole list of these organizations:

thanks for the website. these are the organizations and people that CNN and others have been showing in the News. sister sandra, if i am not mistake was on CNN just this week lobbying. she said this: Jesus was a political revolutionary figure.

The Church will last until the end of time. Continue on your path and do not be deterred by the roadblocks that pop up. Come to the fullness that Our Lord has provided for us so come and bring your love and gifts that will be an uplifting.

Do you doubt the Word of the Lord? “Upon this Rock I will build My Church, and the gates of Hell shall NOT PREVAIL AGAINST IT.”

Don’t worry. The Holy Spirit is at the moment “cleaning house” and purging the Church from the basement up into the highest steeple. When He’s completed the task, She will be the spotless Bride of Christ, as She was supposed to be. Be a part of the wedding party!

I pray that’s the case. What is the best way for me to check out local parishes? I live in a heavily Catholic area with dozens of parishes. Without going to every church, how do I find which would be a good fit for me or do they pretty much teach the same things??

You could start with the one closest to where you live. Maybe even attend a Mass each week at a different church. But I would look into the one nearest to you first.

Well, they are*** supposed ***to teach the same thing. You could see if the church has a “web presence.”
If they are on the web and uphold authentic Catholic teaching.

In the parish system, one is actually supposed to attend the local parish.

Some bishops have enforced this rather strictly (long ago, Cardinal Cody in Chicago was a big stickler on this point), but usually you can attend a favorite parish. Go to several different ones, and if you warm up to one of them ask the priest to enroll you, he will ask a few questions and know if you must go to another (usually a priest wouldn’t consider sending you elsewhere if he did not have to).

Some things you might wish to look for (in no particular order of importance):
  • a parish library for the use of the parishioners
  • plenty of opportunities to volunteer (ie: St Vincent DePaul society)
  • soup kitchen or food pantry for the local needy
  • dignified liturgy with appropriate music
  • community recital of the Liturgy of the Hours (or Divine Praises), the Traditional prayer life of the early church
  • Taizé prayer
If there is a monastery in your locality, it would make a lot of sense to visit. Many people do, and most monasteries can put you up for the night if you are a seeker of Christ, you can experience something of Catholic spirituality (one does not have to actually be a Catholic to go on a retreat). Many people have been received into the church through monasteries over the years and others continually worship in those places. I personally know Protestants who were so moved by Catholic monastic spirituality they became oblates of the local Benedictine monastery where I used to live without initially considering conversion (although some eventually do).

All parishes, monasteries and missions are supposed to teach the exact same doctrine. There is no allowance for variety.

I suggest looking for a parish that offers the Latin mass. These will generally be the more reliably orthodox parishes. 🙂

Generally, the more devout and spiritual a website the better, if it is full of vague and general organizations, focusing more on social justice and socializing than spiritual justice, and devotion that’s not a positive sign.

But the first suggestion is the best. I just moved and have had to hunt parish by parish, and it’s a pain in the neck (and heart) these days finding one that is in great shape.

The Gates of Hell cannot prevail overall, but they do their best within their limitations in individual areas. Thanks be to God from whom all blessings flow for His gracious protection. 🙂

When I saw the name Alinsky it made me perk up. Glenn Beck has talked about him. He is one of the people Obama follows . Wants to overwhelm the system and bring it so they can bring forth their own anti God utopia. Heres a wikipedia link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saul_Alinsky
