Some professionals are organizing to combat these trends. Small but plucky groups are having an impact. Some, like the American College of Pediatricians, are making a public splash.
I looked at some of the position papers put out by the American College of Pediatricians on the subject of homosexuality which are available at their website, including one called “Empowering Parents of Gender Discordant and Same-Sex Attracted Children”. In this paper, although two experts they cite on the subject of homosexuality believe that those that want to try “reorientation therapy” should be allowed to do so, they also believe that “those with SSA can claim a gay identity and lead happy, healthy lives.” So, at least the American College of Pediatricians is being honest about that.
The librarians are nototious for their support of the LGBT. Their annual conferences are coupled with pride parades and gender issues are a permanent part of their conference programs.
