I hope this is the correct forum. Today I sent an email to the archbishop about the Sisters of Charity in Cincinnati, concerning who they have as speakers and what they offer at their “Spirituality Center”. Of the 13 women speakers on their Political and Church Systems web page, all 13 are feminists, advocate women’s ordination and some are pro abortion/choice for women’s rights of course. One of the speakers is Patricia Frensen, who calls herself a bishop. There is also Joan Chittister, Louise Lears, Chris Schenk (director of FutureChurch) and more of the same beliefs. There are links to Call to Action, FutureChurch, Women-Church Convergence and American Catholic Conference. Of the three staff members listed, 1 is a reiki master and the other a reiki practitioner. They list themselves as Catholic. Besides sending the email, I was also going to send a letter but if nothing avails, what is another avenue to stop this?

The archbishop has no authority over the nuns that you mention, because bishops do not have authority over the religious orders, it is canon law. You have to address the mother superior of their order.

That may be true but if he is notified, he can speak out about it. That’s the problem, some of these groups are clearly and basically not Catholic but in using the name only but it seems like there is no one with authority to bring them in line. It would be better to contact Call to Holiness, which arose in response to Call to Action. If priests and Bishops don’t speak up about groups like this, they will spread their errors to the gullible as being Catholic.

Thank you Cristiano and I will address a letter to the superior in Cincinnati. Not one to be a pessimist but if they have all 13 speakers who are dissenting from Church teaching and 2 of the 3 staff involved in reiki…I may not have a good outcome. Would I be able to address a national or international Sisters of Charity? In searching for Sisters of Charity I found a website with nuns in habit, they oppose the HHS mandate…this does not seem to be a similar group to the one in Cincinnati. I also want to request that the archdiocese does not advertise anything that the Cincinnati group offers.

I found all this by searching for retreats and found their site and realized what they promote…a different Catholic or shall I write Non Catholic group.

Yes dcrowmik, I am already praying for this and many other things. May our good God have mercy on us all.

Although I’m not sure, I think the best might be the Prefect of the Congregation for Consecrated Life. His contact information is listed on the Vatican website as:

His Eminence João Cardinal Braz de Aviz
Congregation for the Consecrated Life
Piazza Pio XII, 3
00193 Rome
Italy
+39. 06. 6988412
civcsva.pref@ccscrlife.va

Any bishop or nuncio would definitely make the ball roll faster though.

To robwar, I will contact Call to Holiness. My concern is that this will lead people who are either ignorant Catholics or non Catholics to believe this is what Holy Mother Church believes and professes.

To L Marshall, thank you for the address and I will write to them as well.

I have been ill with a fever of 100.4-9 and have used the time to pray and research on the internet. God used my illness for His Glory. What a blessing! The false teaching of these women must stop as much as I can assist in doing so. Of course, I pray for them but I also want some action in contacting others in the hierarchy that may be able to stop them. I will not be attending any of their retreats…unless someone in the hierarchy asks me to for information 🙂

I am praying for your healing. Thanks for your faithfulness to the Church. God Bless

You might also look into who gives money to this or other problematic programs sponsored by the community. You might find a fundraiser brochure or “thank you” list of donors. Often Catholic organizations or parishes began supporting a religious order or retreat center many years ago, when it was reliably Catholic, then they continue sending them money, every year, even when they are no longer reliably Catholic. My K of C Council, God bless them, will probably send a donation to every “Catholic” program that asks for it. Some parish bulletins or other Catholic newsletters will publicize any activity that takes place at a convent, without checking whether it really is Catholic now. After much prayer, communicate IN CHARITY to the groups giving them money or free publicity, presenting documentation that what they are doing is not in unity with the Catholic faith. Never attack persons. It helps if you can show the donors, or promoters, a better alternative to support in your city. Always present your facts in a positive, loving way. Then leave the results to God.

GOOD LUCK  Pray that God will show them the error of their ways.

Thanks to all, I am better this morning. I have the needed information and will write letters and make calls with charity and prayer. From what I have read, my information will be of no surprise to the local head of the community so I am still searching to find out who to contact for this order. I believe this is a base for the community in Cincinnati.
