How to apply a Indulgence to the souls in purgatory

Hello, I have a question, I just purchased a copy of “manual Of Indulgences” in the book it states “The faithful can obtain partial or plenary indulgences for themselves, or they can apply them to the dead by way of suffrage” exactly how does one apply a indulgence to the souls in purgatory? And exactly what do they mean by suffrage?

You just tell God that you are offering the indulgenced activity for a soul in purgatory. That’s it. You obtain mercy (suffrage) for a soul in purgatory by offering the indulgenced activity for that soul/s.
 
I just heard on this very recently, believe it was from the most recent episode of the Matt Fradd Show. The answer is when you get an indulgence, just have the intention in your mind that it is for someone in Purgatory. I’ve heard this soul in purgetory will then pray for you
