Hi im 19 years old. I try my best to have a spiritual life but its so much hard because its the easyes thing ever to get porn in tv and in internet etc . I watch porn onces in 1 weeks , and I try to avoid watching porn but the fact of the matter is that by typing one world one can get so much porn in internet this make it so hard to avoid .
I had tryed praying almsot all kind of devotions, but still its hard , also I have to be alwasy in the computer because I have to work in the computer and I have also to chat with my girlfriend and my friends everyday.
I dotn know what to do,I had when to cofnesion, and to the church, and I felt that it helped me a lot, however I still keep this problem. I feel soemtimes that I have no free will becasue of this and that I cant not even pray because of my sins. I fell I cant never go to the blessed sacrament because when I go there after confesion I sin soon after.

I also have a health problem and I cant be away from home this make my problem more sevear.
Im worry also about my spiritual life cause im doing this and I know is awfull but I cant stop it.

I pray sometiems act of contrictions but I always sin after that.
I had also prayed for our Mother for help with the purity but its really difficult. sometimes I start to lose the faith in prayers and in penance. but I still try them.
Im in a position where its difficult not to do this knowing that its easy to find porn.
I had like to be pure and Its hard soemtimes but I pray to our Blessed Mother for purity, but when I sin again I lose my faith in prayers more and more.

I wonder if anyone can advise me a firewall or something that could block porn well.
or any advise that I havent done before, cause Im worry about my spiritual life as well.

thanks

Jimmy

Prayer is fine but at some point you need specific psychology tricks. Try this mnemonic:

D.O.T.H.

Distraction - Do something else, get a hobby you look forward to

Oath - When tempted, pause, and imagine Christ next to you

Truth - Ponder the truth of what the lives of women in porn are like, and why it’s better to save that sexual energy for something better

Habit - Don’t watch porn because it’s your /habit/ to not watch porn, and you don’t want to break your habit.

Get rid of your home computer.
Do not watch cable programming.
Do not deliberately buy or borrow or rent books, magazines, DVDs or videos that you know contain immorality.
Go to daily Mass - if possible.
Read and look at only spiritually uplifting material.

Living in this way becomes habit. It only takes 3 weeks for a habit to set.
Since turning my life over to God, I have changed a lot of my old habits.
I LIKE my newer ones.
What I used to think nothing of, now, in many cases, I consider repulsive.

Bravo! Get rid of your computer. It may sound radical, but if when you are on it you are tempted to sin, then it isn’t worth it. Jesus said if our eyes cause us to sin, pluck it out. I am not saying to blind yourself, obviously, but sometimes we have to do drastic measures to combat the devil.
My fiance and I were devoted to a chaste and holy courtship. Was the want enough. No way! We had to constantly be on guard. I bought a little silver ring to wear that says “Jesus” on it. It helped me to be more aware of my boundries. You may want to try a scapular.
And fight, fight, fight. You deserve better then to have that stuff burned into your brain.

Ive found a good habit is to block whatever site you find thats bad for you. Ive found it starts removing a computer as a way to find porn or bad things and allows you to focus on the good things it can bring.

I would definitely try as hard as possible now to remain free of the near occasion. For instance, close your eyes during bad parts of movies until you continue to progress

If you get a college job, don’t work at a library. You can always tell when your co-workers stumble on a such a website someone left open when shutting down for the night by their reaction when the screensaver turns off.

www.pureloveclub.com

And also, if your online, do it while others are around. That way you are less likely to look at porn with other people around(mom and dad!)

You’re not alone Jimmy,
I’m brand new here, but I’ll give a shot at trying to help. Here is an organization that is dedicated to helping people out with your exact problem. Take a look at it, especially the forums, it is all there to help you.
trueknights.org

Here are a few passages that I am trying to remember right now that may be helpful to you:
*34 The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your whole body is also full of darkness. Luke 11:34

28 But I say to you that anyone who so much as looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 5:28*

You’re not alone, in fact I’d be willing to bet that about 99% of Catholic men have struggled with this. Some to a greater extent than others, but nonetheless, you’re not alone.

Pope John Paul II put something out called Theology of the Body. I haven’t personally looked into it yet, but I have heard nothing but good things. theologyofthebody.net/
This website is for Chistopher West, who has, more or less, decoded our beloved Pope’s writings so that everyone can understand it and enjoy it. I am going to look at it myself tonight.👍
And last, but definitely not least, you HAVE to install a content filter on your home computer and, if it is possible, on your work computer. Use a password generator to generate a password that you won’t be able to remember (can be 20 charactors long), and give it to someone that you trust. You don’t have to tell them what it’s for, just ask them to keep it safe. This way you aren’t tempted to disable it.
My prayers are with you and good luck.

God bless!

You need to change your bad habits into good habits. You know which channels are likely to have porn and you know which internet sites have them as well.

I’ve made it a habit to always skip over the channels that are more like to show porn. I set my favorites channels and they bypass any channel that shows such things. Same thing with favorite internet sites, there are no porn sites in my faovrites list and I immediately delete off any email that even suggests such things.

We are creatures of habit and if you focus on developing good habits you can get rid of the bad ones. Probably since you used to visit such sites, they send you email or pop up stuff on your computer screen, you need to automatically delete these things as a matter of habit and resist any urge to open them up.

It takes time to develop good habits just as it takes time to develop bad ones. Prayer does help and just imagining that every time you go to these sites, you put yourself at great risk to either end up a long time in Purgatory or even final damnation. It is very tough when you are young, sexual desire is very strong and this it is natural. That desire is what perpetuates the human species.

However we are not wild animals, and we CAN control our sexual desires. We have an intellect that lets us know when it is appropiate and when it is not. Sexual expression is for marriage and outside of marriage it is not appropriate.

The popular media now is so innundated with sexually suggestive material, that even prime time tv can be borderline porn. Even commercials can be quite provocative. But we must not give in to these temptations. Our first impulse is to think these things are good and pleasurable, but the reality is that they are poison, and we need to treat them not as something good and natural but as something insideous and harmful.

Sex itself is natural but it has its place in marriage not in the popular media. The sex displayed in web sites is degrading and provocative. Think about the message it is trying to convey, the idea that anyone can have sex with any or all or the pretty women. That is an outright lie. We are a monogamous society, those women are for the most part unobtainable. Even if they were available, the best that could result from that is an encounter with a prostitute.

What we seek in life is to meet someone to build a future with, to share our experiences for a lifetime, not one night stands or brief chance encounters.

The question you should be always asking yourself is do I want to trade in an eternity in Heaven for a few moments pleasure now that is both fleeting and totally unrealistic and for the most part unobtainable. It’s the same quuestion one needs to answer when a married person in tempted to start an illicit relationship or see a prostitute. While Hell may not be an immediate result of any one such encounter, continuous serious sin can easily lead us there. Plus who knows if that one serious sin may be the last action in our lifetime.

To be able to behave as a sexually mature adult it is necessary to let go of some destructive ways of thinking of others.
When we are young and the opposite sex is a mystery to us, it can be tempting to focus on parts of a person rather on the whole person.
It is tempting to think about the pleasure someone might grant us rather than think about how we can sacrifice for someone we love.

You aren’t just hurting yourself…you are hurting your girlfriend, and also the individuals who are participating in the pornographic pictures and films.
It is a fantasy…these people are acting and they don’t look or act like that in real life. Most of those people are extremely unhappy individuals who have allowed themselves to become slaves.
It is no different than prostitution, and you don’t strike me as the type of person who would support prostitution.

You have a mother - maybe a sister?
Someday you may have a wife or a daughter. Remind yourself that the women in these films are mothers, sisters, daughters.
They need prayer to escape their lifestyle, but they DON’T need you supporting their self-imposed slavery by viewing this depravity and giving the industry any more money than they already have.

Maybe if you start to see it for what it really is…and not the fantasy…you might not be so tempted to participate in it.

In today’s internet, there are many ways to block porn, if you are really serious about it. Never do I receive a single thing with sexual content! You can set up blocks in your computer to prevent others from accessing you.

Go to Control Panel (or Tools at the top);
Select “internet options;”
Click “privacy;”
Select “advanced;”
Select “accept” for First Party cookies and “allow” for session cookies;
Select either “block” or “prompt” for Third Party cookies.

If you select “prompt,” you will receive a notice whenever someone tries to attach an unwanted cookie to your computer and then you can block it. The blocked site will then be automatically recorded in “privacy” under “sites” where you can see how many are permanently eliminated.

These are the nasty ones who secretly monitor your computer use and send all the pop-ups. You can always block these, as well by selecting “block pop-ups.”

One final exercise that you need to do is to “right-click” on the “start” button, select “explore” and select “cookies.” Click “Ctrl A” to select them all, and then press the “delete” key. You will be amazed at how many sites there are on your computer … hundreds!

After this, you need only go to the control panel> internet options> general> delete cookies, about once a week or so.

Happy computering!

This is easy. Just stop thinking about it. If it is a habit, then when the thoughts about it pop into your mind, do something outdoors or call a friend to do something. It is simple, but you have to want to stop doing it. The will has to be there or you’re just wasting your time trying to break the vicious cycle. Good luck.

Jimmy, I am sorry you are having this probelm, I have struggled with it as well, though I’ve managed (thank God) to stay away from porn for the last two years. But because I was addicted to it for so long, it is still in my head and still causes me problems, so I urge you to break this habit as soon as you can before it embeds itself deeper into your psyche and soul.

I know it is hard with porn so accessible. When I was your age (said the old fart) you had to go to a creepy theater in a bad part of town to see a porno flick and worry about getting hit on by pervs. Now it’s in the comfort of your own home.
I pray sometiems act of contrictions but I always sin after that.

DON’T!!!
That’s just what Satan wants & just the trap I fell into – “I’m a sinner so **** it.” Keep fighting somethimes you will lose but you will win more and more.

[qoute]I wonder if anyone can advise me a firewall or something that could block porn well.

If you’re not going to ditch your computer as others have suggested:
Fist, install the Virtual Rosary. That way when you are tempted it will be right there on your desktop for you.

Second, switch to the Firefox browser if you aren’t already using it and install the BlockSite extension. It doesn’t automatically block porn but it will block any site you tell it to.

I think somebody already recommended pornnomore but they have a link to internet filters, so check them out.

pax vobiscum

Want to change a habit?

Change your patterns.

If you get into fights in bars, then avoid bars. No explanations needed to anyone. Just stop showing up.

If you get off the bus on the way home from work and walk past a ginmill and next thing you know it’s 20 drinks later … then ride the bus to a different bus stop, so you don’t have to walk past that ginmill or any ginmill.

You may have to reorganize your life. Sometimes a little bit. Sometimes a lot.

My mother used to always tell me to “avoid bad companions”. But it doesn’t have to be PEOPLE who are the bad companions.

Get rid of all your bookmarks and favorites. No more credit card purchases. If necessary, cancel your credit cards; pay cash for everything and stay away from porn stores. If you have to, disconnect the internet.

There are libraries that stay open late. Discover books. It’s a whole amazing world. Start the habit of reading books.

Start the habit of walking past churches.

Start the habit of spending your money on taking tours or religious pilgrimages. [Sign up for the Catholic Answers boat trip.]

There are plenty of alternate ways of spending time and money. Lots of interesting things to do besides porn.

Go for a very long walk. Put your rosary beads in your pocket and say the beads inconspicuously while walking.

My best guy friend struggled with porn.

Get rid of the computer. Get rid of the tv. Find a friend who is 100% dedicated to making you accountable.

Don’t hang out alone and bored. Find something to do outside. Get a second job. Find a hobby. Exercise.

Use your bed for sleep only. Make your body and mind get into the habit of going straight to sleep and then getting straight out of bed the next morning.

I say ban porn world wide, burn all things porn and kick porn stars outa the church, or better still, torture them into repenting and turn them into priests and nuns.Or even better still, ban ALL porn stars from ever coming into the church.

I may be able to help if the source of your porn is the net…

Somebody already said that throwing the PC would be nice… I say it will really be helpful… In fact that’s the best technique. But if you need your PC so much that throwing it would be not worth it, try my suggestion, It helped me get porn out of my life…

Download an internet packet controller… There are many freeware in the net. It is a software that controls the packets that are flowing in traffic of your PC. Try to block words that are typically associated with porn such as “sex”, “nude”, “naked” and stuff like that. If you do this, sites that contain those words on the source codes would not be successfully opened in your PC. And after that, try to place a password protect… And while placing the password, don’t place something you would remember. Try something random that is just typed when your eyes are closed. Something like “dut9-3476u” or “nijr7467oiew7”. Something that you wouldn’t easily decipher. In this way, even if you can’t hold the temptation, atleast you could never get that porn… Plus it helps defending your PC from spyware and viruses. I hope this helped.

👍

Hi, I appreciate all ur advices they had helped me a lot. unfortunately I coulndt find an internet packet controller. could you advice me one?

Thanks for all the info and advices you have provided I appreciate them.

Dude, I’m 19 too. I’ve gone what you are going through. I signed up for www.settingcaptivesfree.com and it’s a Protestant course (there are only a few anti-Catholic things they say). Overall it’s a great course. It’s 60 days, and you answer questions from the Bible and submit, and there is a mentor that is assigned to you. Your mentor will read your answers, and give you advice and such. Basically it teaches you to be pure and chaste (whatever your station in life, and whatever your age), and it really helped me to overcome impurity in my life. If you don’t like it, then you can always try something else.

You speak about going to Mass, and then sinning the same sin over and over again. I know exactly what that’s like. It happened to me countless times! But don’t ever give up! Christ can help you.

I have a content advisor on my computer, and I try not to be alone when I’m online, or I leave the door open when I am online. You may have to restrict your internet access as well.

Also, www.trueknights.org helped me a lot as well. True Knights is a Catholic purity site. There’s a discussion forum as well there.

Also, regular Confession will help you a lot. I know you may think that it’s pointless, but one day, you won’t regret it. Keep trying to live the way Christ wants you to live! He knows your struggles; he knows that you fall. But he can help you with his grace.

I’ll be praying for you!

One thing that can help is buying a copy of The Passion of the Christ and every time you get the urge to watch that type of material pop The Passion in and see what looking at that material will do to Christ.
