I’ve always had the habit of fibbing and exaggerating. Lately, I’ve realized that I’m becoming more comfortable with lying and that my lies can become bigger and bigger. I don’t want to end up telling a lie that would get me into trouble or end a friendship. I want to be honest, but I don’t know how to break the habit. Does anybody who has struggled with this have any tips?
Prayers would be great too!

Practice catching yourself in the act and force yourself to fess-up, right then and there, regardless of how bad it makes you look.

I was telling a person something once and started exaggerating (grossly…I had a BAD habit of doing this). I caught myself doing it and stopped, mid-sentence, and said, “well, that’s an exaggeration…it was really like this…”.

Get into THAT habit (of immediately correcting yourself), and not only will YOU know that you are beign honset, but the people you talk to will be more likely to trust you when you speak…because they will have seen that you are willing to call yourself out on lies at teh expense of humiiating yourself. 😉

Prayer helps too. “God, keep me honest today. Do not let me lie.”

I agree.

“Are you serious!?”
“Well, no, actually, that was an exaggeration, but you know what I mean…”
“Yeah, totally.”

It’s a great way of fessing up without looking ridiculous.
