I said to God last week that in the next 3 weeks I am going to read all Psalms 3 times and pray Gloria Patri 3 times after each as a thanks for confesion. I sinned again on Tuesday and promised God I will pray 150 Gloria Patris every day of the week. I did them, but I still have Psalms. I am not sure how you that type of promise is called in English. I am not sure I am going to do it. Please help me by answering if you know! And don’t say: What are you doing at the computer writing! Don’t try to understand and judge the situation because it’s really complex. Is there any way in which priest can make period in which I have to pray all this longer?
P.S.I understand that giving such promises to God wasn’t wise.

Hi. We don’t make peace with God by making lots of prayers, we go to Confession and tell God our sins, through the priest.

The priest will probably give you a penance.

You could also mention to the priest about your promise to God of praying lots of prayers and he might well give you some good advice.

Take care.

It sounds like you committed yourself to doing something that you’re now finding impossible. Even though you made this promise to God, please understand that he’s not going to demand that you fulfill an impossible task. He completely understands our human weaknesses. Consider cutting back on your devotions to something you can reasonably expect to actually do and offer that to God. I have the feeling you won’t simply take my word for it, so please follow friardchip’s advice and talk to your priest about it.
