How to become a religious professor

I’ve noticed that at least one Dominican university has several emeriti with “Sister” in front of their names. Now I don’t know all the workings of the religious life, but I’d like to know how I could become a Dominican and a professor, and in what order that would need to be. I’m a man and in undergrad, but grad school seems less daunting as time goes by. What resources could y’all please point me to?

You would discern a vocation with the Dominicans.

After that, you would be plugged in where your superiors saw fit.

I’d say that you could probably go about it in a couple different ways (being a non-religious, take this as purely assumption).

No matter what order you go in, it will ultimately be a decision (and a part of your vow of obedience) made between you and your supervisor as @TheLittleLady mentioned. A big part of the decision on your path will likely be your course of study. If your degree is in Underwater Basket Weaving, the Order may not have much use for you as a teacher in that field.

I think you have already discovered a resource - Dominican universities. If you’re near one, reach out to them. Or, if you’re near a Dominican community (not sure of the proper term here), reach out to them.

Here in St. Louis, we have the Aquinas Institute of Theology, which might be able to assist you. I’ve talked to folks from there a couple times. Super friendly and helpful.
