How to become an apologist?

Hello,
I was wondering what the steps to becoming a Catholic apologist are? It is such a beautiful vocation of defending our Catholic faith, and I would love to look into the process academically.
I am a senior in high school and am wondering what degree path I would take to becoming an apologist?
Also,with that degree, what are the career options found on this life track?
