Hi “Unique”, there are some major topics that most folks have issues with, overall, it’s something like, 1. there is a God. 2. God loves you. 3. God has a plan for you
There’s more, but we can just start with these.
for concept 1, let’s employ the idea of non-contradiction. There is a God or there is not, there is no maybe. Thus, it’s pretty easy to fall on one side or the other. In simplicity, there is a ton of evidence for the existence of God.
for concept 2, you’ve had children from your initial discussion. With any one or all of your children, in the few moments after giving birth, did you ever hold your infant to your heart and think to yourself, “This is my baby, my baby, nobody else’s, and this one I love”. Imagine the magnitude of the love you have for each of your children, multiply that by 7 billion billions and that’s how much God loves you!
for concept 3, patience! God’s call to you might be a whisper right now, shoot, might even be just shadows. Having the response to keep going to Mass, keep the faith, keep your children in the church, keeping your sacraments … all of that adds graces to your soul. The best part is, you probably don’t even know it but God is filling your soul each and every time you respond and strengthening your resolve to get to know God even more.
So what, you don’t know that much about God now, there’s tomorrow and the day after that to learn a little bit more.
Being a Catholic, you’ve a bunch of advantages that others (non-catholics) may not even realize. Strip away everything you’ve ever thought or thought you knew about God, scratch it all, start with a clear mental mind, and step into Adoration. Take one thing, understand that the Eucharist on display is the true presence of Christ in body, blood, soul, and divinity. Suspend your disbelief and believe just that one thing, that white little bread-circle sitting inside that pretty and precious monstrance (the big gold display thing that holds the consecrated host). Sit in silence, let your experiences of your entire life flow through your thoughts and consciousness and pick up on the ones that relate to your relation to God. Let your mind wander to the wonders of what could be wonderful. I’d suggest to clear your mind, but I’ve never been able to clear my mind in any way. To silence my mind so I can listen to what I may receive from God, I usually just end up signing. Grab a song book, open it randomly, pick a good song, and just sing it! It’ll clear your mind.
