How To Bring Life To The Mass

One thing I have learned to do which helps me in mass, is that I prepare ahead of time for it. I go to a link fromthe Catholic Bishops or ewtn.com to get the readings ahead of time and I read and reflect on them, more than once. If I havent’ be able to do that, I get to mass at least 15 min. before it starts and read them in the missalette. So that I can more fully take it all in. I also found that if I sing and participate the time just flies and I get so much more out of it. But it all ways, I have to be the one participating. I am not at a performance or a play or concert where I just sit back and wait to be entertained. I must make an effort to be involved. Many times, I remember that we are all linked…and somewhere else in the world, in my country, even across town, there are people all worshipping God at this very same time. I think that to me is the most powerful idea…and Jesus is fully present to all of us. Praise God!

Every person is called to assist in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

You know, I agree, you get out of it what you put in. However, I also understand where Santaro 75 is coming from. I used to attend a parish where everything had become very ritualistic. People just going through the motions. I am not saying that we should be entertained, but why shouldn’t we be able to be excited to be at mass. It is difficult to do when almost every other person in the building runs for the doors the second the final blessing is done. As far as singing, I agree that when everyone sings with their hearts in it, the liturgy seems more alive. Like it or not, not every person is capable of committing themselves as some of us are. Heck, I can worship in any kind of church environment, but I am also very strong in my faith. Not everyone can do that. Thats why parishes are different and each person should seek out the parish where they feel comfortable. We are not clones of each other and some of us prefer different things.
