I skimmed the end, but I read most of the rest. Despite the generalizations, most of it seems like solid advice. I guess the only part I really disagreed with was “Who should pursue whom?” Which, naturally, used the metaphor of a girl in a tower and a knight who slays the dragon.
Most women really want to be the princess in the tower. They want the young man to go out and slay the dragon and rescue them.
Like, can we form a dragon-slaying tag team or something? Archer and swordsman? Some kind of teamwork here? Isn’t slaying dragons together part of what you do when married?

I realize this is in the context of courtship, but I still don’t see how this whole “rescue the princess” mentality is helpful. I don’t really get this idea of pursuit, or why it’s necessary to “chase” a woman who shows no signs of being interested. Or why women being interested is wrong. I would think that the ideal would involve honesty, regardless of who falls for the other first. Am I wrong there? Is that too high an ideal?
Women chasing men is a negative phenomenon. It’s a good thing that women are put on a pedestal. It’s a good thing that the man pursues the woman. Deep down inside, women want this. Any “woman’s movement” that attempts to bring women down to the ordinary level is a diminishment.
OK, see… I am ordinary. I’m just a human. My femininity doesn’t make me into some kind of princess or goddess, nor should it.

I do think there’s a grain of truth to what the author is saying- after all, if women have to figuratively “chase” men, I would say that’s negative, too. Men certainly should continue to ask women on dates if they develop an interest in them. I just also think it’s negative if women are required not to let men know of their interest. Nobody should have to “chase” anybody, and both should be free to let people know how they feel. Women should not be reduced to objects to be won, even if those objects are put on pedestals.

Maybe I’m a silly girl who will dream of being “chased” when I get older. I don’t know. I freely admit that I have very little knowledge in this area. But what I do know is, I don’t dream of sitting in a tower and waiting for people to slay the dragons outside. I dream of no longer slaying them alone.

Again, that was really the only part that struck me as false, apart from the broad generalizations. The rest basically made sense, although none of it was particularly unique.

Yeah the chasing part, I agree with you.

I thought some of this sounded familiar. Then I realized it was a different version of a class I took on a retreat in 8th grade. It was changed for dating and centered around Real Love vs. Lust, but a lot of the points were the same.

It was the most useful resource through those horrible teen years.
