How to confess my sins though I'm not baptized

I start my RCIA in August, however I consider myself Catholic at heart, I go to mass every sunday, I say my prayers daily and my rosary on a regular basis. However when I am in a state of mortal, what can I do for penance. I know I can’t go to confession, but what can I do to free myself from that state of mortal sin. It’s very troubling for me.

Sometimes I get the feeling that my priest is bothered or slightly annoyed by me, just his tone of voice and body language when I’m asking him questions makes me feel that way, that’s why I wanted to come here first.

Based on the title of your post, I assume you have not been baptized (not even in a different christian community).

When you are baptized, it will forgive any sin you have every committed, and remit both the eternal and temporal punishment of the sin. So at that time you will truley starting with a clean slate.

Since you have not been baptized yet, I am not sure any of the other sacrements including confession would be effective, even if a priest would break the rules to confer it.

Nonetheless the Lord will hear your prayers. Examine your conscience. Ask the Lord to forgive you of those sins. Then say a perfect act of contrition. Do you best to say it out of love for the Lord, rather than out of fear of punishment for sin. I think that is about the best thing you can do in your circumstances.

Baptism will absolve all your sins. Until you are baptized, you can’t receive the other sacraments.

Don’t worry though. As a catechumen who is seeking baptism, if you died you would be covered by baptism of desire. Your sins would be forgiven (assuming you repent) b/c you desired baptism.

If it still bothers you, perhaps you you seek an expedited process based on independent study.

God bless you and keep you for having the courage to renounce your sins and become a Christian. The other posters who have responded already are all correct: ** Baptism will remove every trace of the stain of sin on your soul.** Do not despair! God hears the prayer of even the most hardened sinner who has had a change of heart and has repented.

As others have said- baptism will forgive you, whether it is with water or through your death beforehand(though I certainly hope it is the first one!!!). Be sure to have a private confession to God and pray an act of contrition, or whatever helps you feel repentance and change your ways. If you are contrite, the baptism of desire will forgive you.

I too feel like I annoy my priest by talking to him, etc, or even during confession. I have yet to speak to him in actual sentences outside of confession, and I’ve never called him ‘Father’ to his face, as I’ve yet to really say anything more than ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘sort of’, or whatever. Hopefully it’ll get easier- maybe find someone to be your sponsor for RCIA who is good friends with the priest, and can help you ‘break the ice’ or even find out if you’re misinterpreting what he means.
