Do Catholics have to confront or respond to everything ?

Anyone can say anything in these times.

You dont even know if people on Twitter that say they are Catholic are actually Catholic.
Excellent point…

Since the internet started everyone knows it’s attracted a horde of:

Phonies
Pretenders
Poseurs
Provocateurs
And Liars…

Especially on Political and Christian Forums…

NO…

As another brought attention to this…

I’m no more insulted by the fact that some Christians are anti-Semitic
than insulted by the fact that some Jews are anti-Christian.

THAT SAID, I’d never go on to for instance a Jewish Site asking:

How to confront Jewish AntiChristianity…?

Even if I could provide let us say reasonable evidences that even one Jew is…

In any opinion, were that to occur, might any here think that some Jews become “insulted”? "

Are any here disturbed or insulted by my mention of some Jews as my way of getting a Point across?

It hasn’t.

See this:
Your OP implied an uptick in Catholic Antisemitism, read it again. Also recognize that many posters here took that meaning from your writing, even if not your intent.

Back to the topic of antisemitism, I’m puzzled by the recent attacks. The latest attacker (Grafton) actually grew up in a Jewish community and did Sabbath chores for his neighbors.

On reading more about him, it feels more like he was mentally ill and wanted a convenient target than he was deeply antisemitic. Maybe instead of searching for ‘white nationalists’ we need to be more attuned to those with mental illness.

Except I didn’t. Again, you’re reading into my comments what you like. I’ve clarified this multiple times throughout the thread. I did not claim there’s some enormous cabal of antisemitic Catholics. 🤷‍♀️
Why would you suggest a solution on the diocesan level if this weren’t a really large problem?
Because I’m actually speaking with my own diocese to spread education and find solutions.
Why associate Catholic anti-Semitism with articles which imply a very large problem of anti-Semitism?
Because all Catholics should be concerned about any rise in hatred.
Why describe the problem as you did: horrifying, something that ALL Catholics should be talking about/
See above. I genuinely don’t mean to be snarky, Annie, but it’s so unbelievably strange to me that I have to justify asking Catholics to be concerned about hatred and bigotry.

On that note of “white nationalists” and “white supremacy” …
there’s been a large uptick in these reports which Broad-Brush those whose Skin Color is White…

Smells very Racist to me to make such a Disingenuous? Claim…

And again, this is a CATHOLIC site. And perhaps I’m silly for thinking so, but I believe Catholics should actually speak openly about internal problems.

acknowledging that Catholics can harbor antisemitism
However It’s been acknowledged: SOME Cathoilic Individuals can…

What’s unacceptable and insulting is any attempts to Globalize it.

As in: How to Confront Catholic antisemitism!

Be specific… Give clear cut examples. Who did so? What exactly did they do?

Thank you for providing a case-in-point for the post just prior to yours. You haven’t made it past the title of this thread.

Some are not answering simple questions…

Why?

AntiSemitism on the part of Some Catholics?

WHOM? Be specific… Give clear cut examples. Who did so? What exactly did they do?

Focusing on love is better than focusing on “hatred and bigotry” .

If we focus on love, the hateful will stand out and become more and more visible.

the mere idea that some Catholics may be prejudiced
A LOT of resistance to even acknowledging that Catholics can harbor antisemitism
I did not claim there’s some enormous cabal of antisemitic Catholics.
No this is continued misrepresentation of the original claim
I’ve become aware of how prevalent antisemitism is among some Catholics on platforms like Twitter. To be frank, it’s horrifying
Post said the “prevalence” of antisemitism among Catholics is “horrifying

Title then uses term “Catholic antisemitism” which reinforces the assertion above

You’ve chosen not to go back and edit these posts and title. Instead suggesting anyone pointing out these inconsistencies is uneducated
If nothing else, I think this thread demonstrates the lack of education some people have about history — the long whole of history, not simply culminating events.

The problem among Catholics isn’t really that big so we don’t have to worry about it.
I think what the thread has said in this area is that your set out of the issue gave the impression of a particular “Catholic problem”, whereas many posters don’t see that.

I appreciate you see no deficiency in your formulation of the Issue.
That’s A LOT of resistance to even acknowledging that Catholics can harbor antisemitism,
I’ve not seen that. Are you highly resistant to better expressing the topic? It seems so.

But that’s just it, what makes you so sure that you have to??? I think a lot of us have, and continue to be concerned about hatred of all stripes.
Additionally, you wrote as if there was an enormous anti-Semitic sentiment among a very large percentage of Catholics when you asked about various solutions.
Except I didn’t. Again, you’re reading into my comments what you like. I’ve clarified this multiple times throughout the thread. I did not claim there’s some enormous cabal of antisemitic Catholics.
And yet, this belies the very title of this thread.
How to confront Catholic antisemitism?
Or at the very least, that’s the appearance that’s given to many who have responded to this thread!

I have been. Some continue to read what they want to into my comments and there isn’t much I can do about that.
Grace, you have to stop trying to blame others for their reactions, stop calling it pushback, and take responsibility for what you wrote, that, however you meant it, clearly looks like you suggest anti-Semitism is a big Catholic problem.

Just look at the title. ‘How to confront Catholic antisemitism’? Then in your first post you talk about prevalent anti-Semitism among Catholics on social media. You then think you ‘prove’ this by posting a handful of tweets from Catholic accounts (well, at least they make out to be Catholic).

Your entire thread is about confronting and stamping out Catholic anti-Semitism, but many of us on here, respectfully disagree that this is a Catholic problem. How about first trying to prove this prevalent anti-Semitism among Catholics, with more than a few tweets from a handful of accounts, before trying to find ways for us to fix it? If this thread was about anti-Semitism in general, and how we can prevent it, that would be different. Personally I think there is a lot more of it taking place from non-religious people.

Perhaps you would agree that Christianity in general is anti-Semitic? Heard of Rabbi Shmuley Boteach? He believes parts of the Bible should have parenthesis, warning people that the content they are about to read is anti-Semitic. Yes, according to him, parts of the Bible are anti-Semitic. Do you agree with this? I mean, things can get absurd, don’t you think?

it’s so unbelievably strange to me that I have to justify asking Catholics to be concerned about hatred and bigotry.
No snark taken, Grace 😉

I do not think you have to justify asking Catholics to be concerned about bigotry. And I do not think that anyone was asking you to.

I can’t explain any better than I have how your approach gave people an impression different from what you seem to have been trying to say.

To start out you could make a study of Mit Brennender Sorge, Pope Pius XI’s encyclical to the NAZI regime in Germany. He basically told Hitler to his face that he was wrong. Much of what he said then is still true today.
In particular he said;
8. Whoever exalts race, or the people, or the State, or a particular form of State, or the depositories of power, or any other fundamental value of the human community - however necessary and honorable be their function in worldly things - whoever raises these notions above their standard value and divinizes them to an idolatrous level, distorts and perverts an order of the world planned and created by God; he is far from the true faith in God and from the concept of life which that faith upholds.

A pope apologized for antisemitism of any individuals who’ve involved.

Any claim of for instance of “Catholic antiSemitism” is a serious affront
for it’s made a global accusation against Catholicism…

Especially when asked for and required specific examples are not forthcoming… …
