Hello,
Before I begin, i want to apologize if my post offends anyone. I do not want it to appear that way and I am simply seeking some help with this. My korean parents whom I love dearly are pretty strong in the faith. Over the years as I grew older, I began to see their racist and judgemental comments towards people of other races hateful. My father thinks that African Americans are 2nd class citizens and uses the ‘n’ word calling them trash. He doesn’t even think highly of MLK JR Day calling it ‘n word’ day. My mother tends to judge other people of other races as if she knows them personally. I always tell them that not everyone is like that and you should never judge a person by their skin color. They never listen to me and it angers me beyond belief. I have a lot of good friends of other races who are good people but they do not acknowledge that part much.
Another thing that bothers me is how much they take brag about people of their own race when they accomplish something like medical school or graduation… “Look at how many asians there are at the top of the class. See? No blacks.” It gets to the point that its unbearable because it is almost like a sense of elitism. I have a Vietnamese friend whose parents are JUST like mines but worse…
I want to tell them that we are all made in the image of Christ. We are no better than each other and that to judge in this manner is to criticize the God who gave us life. How can I say this without being rude?
Thank you.
