How do I convince a liberal Protestant Christian that God should have authority over our sexuality and the way we act when it comes to sexual matters such as fornication and such?

You convince a liberal protestant the same way you convince a catholic priest, bishop or lay person involved in sexual sin. You confront them and expose their sin. Tell them to read their Bible and repent, or turn from their sin and confess it to God. If their deeds are illegal, such as child molestation you notify the authorities. How do I convince a liberal Protestant Christian that God should have authority over our sexuality and the way we act when it comes to sexual matters such as fornication and such?![]()
Based on another post by Holly I suspect that the person she is refering to is her boyfriend and sexuality within their relationship. I do not think it involves any âillegal activitiesâ.You convince a liberal protestant the same way you convince a catholic priest, bishop or lay person involved in sexual sin. Liberal protestant or catholic⌠If he is consistently pressuring her to engage in sin, and believes that God has no authority over human sexuality, she needs to drop this loser immediately.Based on another post by Holly I suspect that the person she is refering to is her boyfriend and sexuality within their relationship. I would explain that God has already clearly explained that He has governance over our sexuality by using the Bible. The Ten commandments forbids âAdulteryâ elsewhere âhomosexualityâ is condemned as well as contraception by âspilling ones seed on the groundâ.How do I convince a liberal Protestant Christian that God should have authority over our sexuality and the way we act when it comes to sexual matters such as fornication and such?![]()
I agree that the relationship may need adjustment. BUT I also think that, as a Loving Christian, she should employ Mt 18:15-18. She should show him is sin, and bring witnesses if he will not listen to her. If witnesses are insufficiant, then we have a problem because, since they are of different faith communities, there is no way for them to, âTell it to The Churchâ.Liberal protestant or catholic⌠If he is consistently pressuring her to engage in sin, and believes that God has no authority over human sexuality, she needs to drop this loser immediately.

So you do believe that God has a role to play in our sexual lives - correct?I consider myself a moderate (leaning toward liberal) protestant, but I definitely believe in a level of sexual ethics, but they certainly donât follow Catholic doctrine.
You are right that it is my boyfriend I am talking about. However, it is not about sexuality within our own relationship. We are in a chaste relationship at this time. I am simply trying to address his belief that God should have no control over our sexuality.Based on another post by Holly I suspect that the person she is refering to is her boyfriend and sexuality within their relationship. Donât worry, he is not pressuring me to engage in sin. I disagree with this. If someone disagrees with your religion, but is respectful of it, it shouldnât matter at all. If they are constantly giving you problems about it, then it probably isnât going to work, but people of different faiths can and should get married.Holly,
In another thread you mentioned this person is your boyfriend-- an anti-Catholic United Church of Christ member.
This cannot go anywhere good.
The purpose of dating is to discern marriage. How can you even consider pursuing that path with someone who hates your faith and with whom it would be a constant battle regarding the moral laws of the Church?
I donât get this idea that you can just âconvinceâ him of everything Catholic and it will be OK. I think you are being very naive.
I think instead of trying to remold the boyfriend, you need to find someone who fits the mold already-- someone with whom you SHARE the most important part of who your are: your Catholic faith.
Perhaps it was on the other thread, but Holly tells us that her boyfriend is anti-catholic so obviously there is a problem just in this.I disagree with this. If someone disagrees with your religion, but is respectful of it, it shouldnât matter at all. The Bible is also clear that you should kill your child if they curse you.The Bible. It is crystal clear when it comes to fornication sending you to hell.
You are off topic here. The Bible is also clear that you should kill your child if they curse you.

The subject of this thread is Sexuality and Godâs role as it should be understood by two Christians, one Catholic and one non-catholic. In this case, God is clear.
Please try to remain on topic.

Point taken but these kinds of things can derail a thread very quickly.Anyway, I was just mentioning that there are other things that the Bible says explicitly that Catholics donât agree with.
Well, for starters, donât approach the question that way. Thatâs not the point a liberal Protestant is likely to dispute. Rather, a liberal Protestant is likely to argue that Godâs law can be summarized in the command to love one another. Therefore, sexual behavior that is abusive or manipulative is wrong (and a liberal Protestant might even suggest that failing to use birth control might be unloving behavior on the part of a man under certain circumstances). But a liberal Protestant may see nothing wrong with consensual intercourse within a relationship characterized by trust, affection, and respect, and they are particularly likely to press that argument in the case of gays, divorced people, etc., for whom conservative Christians would argue that celibacy is the only option (well, since the Orthodox allow divorce and remarriage perhaps I should qualify that, and of course a homosexual may engage in heterosexual marriage with or without some kind of therapy to attempt to change orientation). How do I convince a liberal Protestant Christian that God should have authority over our sexuality and the way we act when it comes to sexual matters such as fornication and such?![]()
