How to convince my (Methodist) friend to go to Church?

I post this here because, well, I want my friend to go to Church - I mean, the Methodist Church. I am more concerned that he actually starts going to Church and making the time for God than to try convert him or anything*.

How to convince him that going to Church is necessary? He goes to his Church back home, but when at university he tells me that he doesn’t go because they “aren’t his congregation” and might differ in beliefs or in worship styles. I’m not sure how to approach this with him, since he isn’t Catholic. I can tell a Catholic that he should go, but it’s a bit different with someone who isn’t Catholic.

He’s a dear friend, and like all of us he is sincerely trying to love Jesus Christ more, so I want him to understand why worship is important.

Thanks for any help

*As for converting him, firstly it makes more sense that he understands worship and Christ first before trying to convert him. Loving Christ above all things comes first I think. Secondly, he made it clear to me he’d never convert anyway 🙂

So, let me know if I got this correctly or not, please.

He is a Christian, perhaps less devout than others, but committed to Christ, and yet, unwilling to attend church?

Perhaps if you go with him? Fulfill your Sunday obligation and attend church with him? Maybe that will spark some interest?

Correct. For some or other reason, he doesn’t find it necessary to attend Church on a Sunday. Hence the thread.

Might be an idea thought I’m not entirely comfortable attending Protestant services.

The above idea isn’t a bad one. For he/she might feel better with a friend by their side. So long as you continue to also go to the Catholic church it shouldn’t be a problem. Just remember if you do go that you don’t partake the Methodist communion as that may confuse others.

Another way is to perhaps give them a book on Methodism. That way he/she can deepen their faith. That way they can go to any of the Methodist churches and tell which ones are holding true to their core tenets and which are not.

Lastly, they should pray.

Peace be with you
