Sometimes I feel very confused about things, like where God wants me, then I started feeling doubts about the Church - nothing intellectual, but more in my feelings, - and nothing seems clear at all… my issue is always the same: if God wants me to be Catholic or Orthodox. The thing is, many times I have felt a lot of clarity and peace when I decided to be Catholic, and I believe all that the Church teaches. But I still feel this confusion and lack of clarity.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how one could find clarity again… or is this just something to live through?

I know I’m not supposed to focus on my feelings too much, - I am trying to not focus on them now

Monica,

ONe of my weaknesses in my own spiritual life is sometimes I get carried away by feelings, feelings of doubt, feelings of whether I am doing the right thing or not, and the list could go on ad nasuen. My SD has always said to me that we are not our feelings nor our thoughts.

Rememer the times you felt peace, and clairity and moments of strong faith, and hang on to these moments.

Everyone struggles with confusion. There are Saints and there are strugglers, the saints are in heaven…

Something that I often do is do interior prayer. Come up with a short phrase that means something to you and say it over and over, but not in your head, but in your heart. Think of the place where you love God and your family and say it from there. The phrase could be “Jesus I trust in you” or “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me.” Just don’t get it too long. In time this will become easier and confusion will no longer be around, because your focus is on God and your short prayer.

Be at peace. God Bless.
