“a more aggressive advocate.” Can you please explain what this is? My advocate was my parish priest at the time I started the annulment. Before I finished answering the questionnaire (it took me 9 months) he was transferred to another parish, 250 miles away (but in the same diocese.) He remained my advocate, but I never communicated with him until the appellate diocese asked to retry the case… After that, there was little to no communication with him.OP, maybe your diocese is just amazing, but only a year from start to finish is crazy fast, and I have to wonder if the denial was for lack of evidence/witnesses, something that could be remedied. If the husband, as the petitioner, is willing to look in to it, perhaps he can find something to help solve this. Sometimes it takes a more aggressive advocate.
As it was explained to me, and advocate was there to answer questions and explain things, if need be. I took that as the purpose of the advocate, and thus really had no reason to contact him. What I mean is, I understood perfectly when the first instance diocese ruled in the affirmative, and I darn well knew what it meant when the court of second instance ruled in the negative…
What I did not know was I could have/should have had an advocate who was willing and able to flex his muscle…
Oh well, it’s too late now.
