In the past year or so, I’ve noticed that I’m quicker to become afraid of things. I do have mild social anxiety but I’m seeing a therapist about it and I’ve mentioned to her that I get very afraid of political actions and other things happening in the world. She’s told me to pray and call on Christ and my Guardian Angel for help. I do this and I do feel calmer but I’m interested on how some of you deal with this if you do.
Usually, whenever I see the news, I start feeling anxious about death or how bad a situation might get. Things like the Facebook scandal scare me as do blurbs about scams that people post on Facebook. I’m not on social media that often, maybe once a day or every few days so I do try and stay away from the things that scare me. I try to pray every day and focus on things that are wholesome and have nothing to do with the things that scare me.
Things about Hell and sin as well as the prosecution of Christians scare me too.
I know fear is part of being human but it’s so annoying and uncomfortable. I feel like perhaps this means I’m not trusting in God enough and I don’t know how else to work on that.

I would rather be hit, than live in fear of being hit.

I have been a Street Pastor for ten years, we wonder round our streets until around 4 am, our role is to care, listen and to help when we can. We come into contact with a lot of anger and violence, we are often in the middle trying to bring about some kind of peace.

I am 68, and the people I prefer to have in my team in violent situations; are ladies who are also in their 60’s and 70’s. I cannot explain the profound sense of peace that I experience, because I do not understand myself. We pray before we go out, we offer up all our concerns to God, and we ask for help to do God’s will.

Many years ago, away from home at college I started having panic attacks. It had to do with Iran taking Americans hostage. A fellow student and friend who was from Iran, was deported.

I turned off the tv and got rid of it. Stopped listening to radio. That solved the panic attacks. The whole decade of the 80’s is a mystery to me.

Nope. I lived a life. It’s something that young people today do NOT experience since they are tied to their phones nearly 24/7.

I said it tongue and cheek. I don’t want to make too much light of it. I have dealt with them as well and they are not fun.

I read a LOT of history books by people who got caught up in historic events which they were able to overcome. These people were shipwrecked on desert islands, or they were in a crowded lifeboat, or they were trapped in a building by a crazy person … many different situations … and they overcame the adversity.

Over time, I internalized their struggles … I became THEM … and … gotta tell ya … after decades of reading these adventure stories and autobiographical stories and inspirational stories … after decades of “introjecting” their successful heroic survival stories … when things turn to “spit” … I was able to call up THEIR strength … it had become MY strength.

Never discussed it with anyone.

But, it works!

Several books!

And go on from there.

What helps me to feel calm when I begin to feel anxious about something is to say “Jesus I trust in You.” Then I am still for a few minutes and I picture Him and keep saying that prayer slowly.

It also helps to develop a deeper prayer life and give quality time to prayer daily. (I am not critiquing you, as I do not know you, but solid prayer habits are important to develop.)

Sometimes a disorder is related to the brain physiology being abnormal. It is possible that God can help supernaturally, even though the natural is not working ideally. Of course, when not working this can mean that actions are involuntary such that there is no culpability.

Many technical divers familiar with the wreck consider the Andrea Doria to be the Mount Everest of scuba diving. And it’s not just the wreck’s depth range (around 200-250 feet/60-75 meters) that makes this a challenging dive beyond the limits of recreational divers – it’s the location, too.Aug 14, 2013
