Have you ever heard the song Fear is a Liar by Zach Williams? 'Fear Is A Liar' - Zach Williams Lyric Video - Christian Music Videos

My life got less anxious when I stopped reading and watching the news. It freed up emotional energy to devote to my family and local community. Anything super important gets told to me by friends or family. 99.9999999% of what is going on in the world will never effect me personally. The world needs prayer, that’s pretty much all I need to know. I don’t need every single solitary detail, which is designed to upset or anger me. Same goes for social media.

I don’t think our bodies or minds were meant to handle the whole world’s problems. Just 200 years ago and beyond, our ancestors’ primary concern was what was going on in their local geographic community. I think most people these days are overstimulated by too much information. The flow of it is endless. Just because it is there doesn’t mean we have to consume it.

When the panic comes, just repeat “Jesus, I trust in You”.

Thank you all very much! I’ll be looking at these books and videos and definitely diving deeper into prayer!

Amen, to all you said!

I listen to Christian praise and worship in the car. Love that song and others that lift my eyes and heart heavenward.

Do not run from the fear. Face it. Sit with it. Stare it squarely in the eyes and you will overcome it.

I thought it was a little judgmental for her to suggest you had an issue with hate.

Can you explain yourself? What led you to such conclusions? You think she’s a hateful person or has issues dealing with people hating her. You cannot make a bold statement or assertion yet never respond

Yes. I’m sure she’s angry at things. The more angrier she gets - the more fearful she’s finding herself. I think people who are fearful must have - suppressed hate. Perfect love - casts out fear. It makes you courageous.

I use scripture verses to overcome fear. Google scripture verses to overcome fear.
GOD IS NOT THE AUTHOR OF FEAR BUT OF A SOUND MIND…
Get some Christian music and play it. I love Testify by Winona Judd.
Put on your whole armor of God… Ephesians 4 I think
God, we are a mess. We need You so much. Remind me I’m Not alone!
Thank You, Jesus
In Christ’s Love

Fear is the absence of love, how do you love something you are afraid of?

Have been watching the video where pilot Brian tells his story. Pretty cool. Thanks!

Hello.

I have social anxiety, depression, PTSD (this is a newer diagnosis). I see both a therapist and a psychiatrist. Therapy is to talk through the troubles, the psychiatrist is more for medication.

You may want to consider looking into the chemical basis of your fears before addressing the spiritual.

My two cents.

What do you base this off?

If anything,I think it’s the other way around in certain instances-ie:that a person “hates” and is angry because they are fearful.
For example,a person who grew up in a small town surrounded only by people of their nationality background and religion might act like they hate Muslims (for example) and sound angry.
Often though, their “hate” is really driven by fear (of the unknown,of perceptions about Muslims fed to them by the media etc)…

I agree with others that simply tuning out–literally–the daily barrage of bad news is very important. Catholicism teaches us to abide in God’s love and peace, and cultivating and carefully preserving peace of heart is extremely important. Remember that God is the Lord of History and Sovereign Ruler of the World. He is fully in control of all events in the world, and knows exactly what He is doing. Everything is unfolding according to His eternal (and beautiful) will, even though we see only evil and disaster at times. I meditate on this and it helps a lot with fear.
Another thing that helps me is when Jesus said “fear is useless; what is needed is trust.” Keep in mind that fear and anxiety really are useless–dumb, not worthwhile, result in nothing.

I’ve watched it several times. Very cool, indeed.

Watching it has helped me tremendously … helps to find the “inner 12-year-old”.

I literally don’t watch or read news at all, but I hear some on CAF. (Maybe you all don’t need to draw back as far as me, though.)

But yes, I agree with this idea.

While trusting in Jesus may provide help,I don’t think that lack of trust is the full cause of your fear because,to be honest,I probably lack trust in Jesus much more than you do and I don’t get affected by the news etc to the same level that you do.

To me it seems like the issue is how you perceive things and this is probably due to your brain make up but still,it might be possible to change things with your thinking style.

It’s helpful to start from a point of understanding that the media is in the “fear selling” business.
There are plenty of good and positive stories happening everyday but they make up approximately 10 % of the news.
The media knows that (like sex) fear and negativity “sells” (ie:keeps people watching or keeps people buying newspapers).
The key is not to react to it or perceive it in a fearful way.
Eg:you might watch on the news about Isis and instead of being fearful you could think “this is horrible but thankfully it is unlikely that they will come to Usa” (providing that’s where your from).
For news stories that are to do with crimes in your area,it is much harder to think this way,and not be concerned or afraid, but sometimes it helps to do something physical to empower ourselves such as a Self Defence Class.

Regarding scams etc preparation is often the “defence” against these types of scams.
It’s also a positive thing when people warn each other on Facebook about scams.
Knowledge is power.

Fear is so crippling and many of the things you are fearing are realistically unlikely to happen.
Like someone mentioned the fear of something can be sometimes worse than the event itself happening.

I would agree with all of this.

It’s helpful to find a phrase that is meaningful to you such as “Jesus I Trust in You” or “Peace in Christ” or something that reminds you of God’s love for you. Repeat this phrase several times a day–even when you’re not afraid–put the phrase into practice, even if you only think it to yourself. Then when you do become afraid, go to that phrase. See if this helps.

Also important though: start asking God to reveal more and more of his love and his care for you. Ask him to make this known on a heart level, not just a head level. The more and more you feel secure in Him, the less fear you will have. But this also takes time. Also spend time with him–in prayer and in scripture reading. God communicates to us through these things and touches our heart with his spirit. And his spirit brings trust and love, not fear.

Saying prayers for you.

There are gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Which combine to give us courage and fortitude.

We can build up our strengths one brick at a time … and structure a house for ourselves.

One brick at a time.

We can introject into ourselves the success and inspirational stories of other people … one story … one brick … at a time.

It could be George Babbitt and his drum sticks.

It could be Brian Shul … and his photographs and sense of humor.

It could be the trip on the raft … one day at at time.

But we can incorporate these experiences into our own psyche … one brick … one story … at a time.

We do not share these stories and experiences … but we introject them into our selves and … one at a time, we build up a brick here and a brick there.

And we smile inside.
