I want to do daily personal prayer, as well. Think on the concept of that movie War Room. Set aside, personal prayer from the heart, with a written list of people and things I would like to pray for, like people and world leaders.

I find this much easier to set up than…i’m not sure what to call it, ritual prayer? Like the rosary and the Hours of the Liturgy. But i want to have something like the Hours or the rosary to keep the bible and its events and my focus on God throughout the day and not stray.

When i found the Hours of the Liturgy i was very excited about it. I downloaded iBreviary and tried to do the morning prayer, but it was so confusing. I wasn’t sure if i was supposed to click the button and read the psalms first or the paragraph written below the psalms buttons. And this really took away from my focus on God, though it was restored towards the end. Is there a book that’s easier to follow through, without all the flipping back and forth? Or is this something i’ll have to learn through practice? Also, i’ve heard of St. Faustina’s three o clock prayer…?

Also. How does one pray the rosary? And, random little question but what does “Hail Mary” mean? I always had the misconception growing up southern baptist that it was praise to her as equal to or nearly equal to God. But upon reading about it i’ve realized that’s not the case.

Sorry if this is all over the place. Point is, i want my faith to be my life not to work my faith around my life and hobbies and tv shows and etc. I feel like lighting candles and praying and learning about the symbolism there in the candles, the biblical history it calls back to and the bible verses, i like it. I just don’t know how to do anything and i find this confusion really detracts from the focus while praying.

Even an image of a prayer or two would help. I’ve been praying and reading the bible every morning all week. But i want to pray before bed as well. That’s why the Hours of the Liturgy stuck out to me, because they have prayers for parts of the day. But its so confusing.

Is it bad that i’m looking into catholic traditions like these without actually being a catholic or apart of the catholic church? I was just automatically attracted to it because the catholic church has a long history and all these holidays to remember and reflect on biblical events and saints who had God work strongly in their lives and daily prayer traditions and that’s what i want.

Don’t overthink it. I would say if you have chance the best thing to increase your life of faith and prayer is to frequently have access to Sacraments (Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist) and Adoration. About private devotions, pick one or two that are meaningful for you and keep them faithfully and lovingly.

Thank you so much for this. I think you’ve got a point - i’m overthinking this.

I’m very new to all of this; what are the sacraments you spoke of? Eucharist is receiving communion, right? I’m not sure i’d be able to attend a Mass to take part though. My mom’s a southern baptist and she doesn’t even go/take us to church anymore let alone would she see the point of going to Mass. We used to attend a local non-denominational (but predominantly southern baptist leaning) church in town. I found Mass services uploaded online though to watch!

Hi, I replied thinking you were already Catholic. You cannot access Catholic Sacraments without going through a proper preparation that will help you get ready to convert officially to Catholicism (RCIA). You can still practice some private devotions that are typical of Catholic traditions and that you mentioned in your original post (Rosary, Liturgy of the hours etc). If you have a Catholic Church nearby you could talk to the priest, start going to Mass (without receiving Holy Communion) or just stop by for Adoration (as Catholics we believe the Eucharist Bread is the Real Presence of God so we stay a bit in the Church in His Presence, praising Him, praying, and bringing to Him our joys and worries). I wish you will be able to join soon the Catholic Church.

Home is a place to grow your faith, but the seed is planted in the presence of Christ. I would suggest that you begin at adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The silence will help you develop the habit of silence; it will help you associate silence with prayer. We properly humble ourselves before Christ, and humility is an absolute requirement for the deepening of our relationship with God.

The more we empty ourselves of the negative: our pride, ego, resentment, bitterness, distraction etc., the more the Holy Spirit can rush in, filling you with His love.

It is good also to develop both a normal time and place for prayer - thus becoming spiritually ready to enter into the dialog. Dialog? Yes, but remember that the Lord is heard most clearly - and often only - in silence; physical silence of course, but also in the silence of the heart.

You need not build a shrine per se, but a holy place for the holy act of conversation with God. Christ advised us to close our doors and pray in private, so that our Father, who sees in secret, will reward us.

Anyway, a few suggestions for your consideration.
