I know a lot of atheist and non Christians who claim that Jesus was in fact judgmental, when he himself told us that he came not to judge but to save. The attacks that these people make is that Jesus himself was judgmental by calling people names such as when he said “Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you are like to whited sepulchers”, and when he said “Woe to you lawyers also, because you load men with burdens which they cannot bear, and you yourselves touch not the packs with one of your fingers”.

I personally don’t think he was being judgmental, but rather just exposing their wickedness.

I would like to know what you guys think I should say and what a good answer would be for people who claim that Jesus was himself judgmental.

Of course He was judgmental! Where did you get the idea that “He told us He came not to judge”?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being judgmental. Being judgmental is what separates us from the animals.

Sheesh the other day I even heard someone complain that a judge was being judgmental! 🤷

What bothers me is when anyone DARE call him a “zombie”… It makes me want to be, not nice.

A zombie?! I have seriously never heard that. I am afraid I would just stare in disbelief if I heard someone say that.

I’ve seen it a couple of times, bothers me. I saw an image of a zombie Jesus with bunny ears on Easter.

He was judgemental when he needed to be and forgiving when He needed to be.
God will judge us all. but with a loving heart.

the zombie thing is ridiculous.:rotfl:

The “judge not” passage is talking about hypocrisy if you read further on. In another passage we are supposed to judge not according to appearance but a righteous judgement. He knew all hearts, nobody can judge better than him.

Secondly He is God. God’s duty is to judge all people.

Yep. It’s a common slam on Christianity.

For that, I tend to point out in a semi-humerous way that Zombies are able to be killed, are not human (nor divine), and are not in any way like their pre-zombie days. The same cannot be said about our Lord.

Or I just ignore them. Usually when people blaspheme in such a…words escape me…let’s just say insulting manner, they’re just looking for a rise. I try not to feed trolls.

1* "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.
I don’t think that Jesus has much to fear from how He is judged. 😉

People have such self-righteous horror at “judgment”. It’s like being “judged” is a fate worse than death.

“Don’t judge me” is really saying “if you have criticism, be quiet.”

People need to grow up

And also, the reason we should not be judgmental (truly judgmental, not just critical) is because judgment God’s job. In fact, one of His titles is the Just Judge. You know Judgment Day? Yeah. That’s Him 😉

How about this: You’re right He was judging them for their actions. Just like you or I would. Here’s how He is so much greater than we can imageine. In spite of passing such a judgement as this, He still gave His life so that those he judged guilty could go free. The judge who dies so the criminal may live.

Jesus did come into the world to save. He did not come into the world to judge us. That will come later.

Much in the same way that I sit down at the dinner table to eat dinner. But, if someone else talks to me during dinner, I might also have a conversation. But that is not why I sat down. I sat down to eat. Does that mean that I contradict myself? Of course not. Just because I have a primary motive, it does not mean that I can’t have a multitude of secondary motives as well.

Thanks for everyone’s post:D

Yea I think you are right. The judgement he meant was that of appearance and not really knowing all the sides and not knowing the actions of that person thoroughly.

I never though about it this way. I can actually understand God’s love with this quote. Thanks:)

I ain’t taking credit for that quote. I also found it on the internet, but it is extremely helpful with these sorts of discussions isn’t it? I hope you found yuor answer!

I might even point out that ‘true’ zombies of folklore (unlike the modern virus-infected zombies of Hollywood) were corpses who were resuscitated through occult means by a bokor to use as his/her slaves, kind of like the Chinese jiangshi or ‘hopping corpses’. Obviously the resurrected Jesus would not fit even this category since He obviously was not being controlled by somebody else and is apparently in full control of His faculties.

I think what you mean is that we shouldn’t condemn anyone.

We certainly should judge the actions of ourselves and others, and condemn those actions if we judge them to be immoral (whilst doing our best to develop an informed conscience of course). In fact Jesus commanded us to do so.

It is a charitable act to point out (in a loving way of course) to your brother that he is doing something wrong. Otherwise he might not even realise that it’s wrong! or might not get up the courage to stop doing it without encouragement from you. .

That is, we must not say “You are going to Hell.”

But we** must** say “If you don’t repent of doing X mortal sin, you will go to Hell.”
