I know good priests who agree with me.
Actually, you don’t. You know heretics that agree with you. 👍 Furthermore, even if someone is a good person, this does not mean that they are speaking the truth.

I’m not sure I see how creating Adam first shows his authority.
In fact, by creating Eve last it may show female authority! How so? Because of the order of creation–first the fish, then the birds, then the reptiles, etc etc–seems to show a developing intelligence and progression of life forms. Women were created last, so we must be the most advanced!

(I am saying this tongue-in-cheek, of course! This thread is definitely NOT about who is superior, male or female. All human life is precious in God’s eyes and worthy of God’s eternal gifts.)

Equality of dignity has nothing whatsoever to do with authority. 🙂 Jesus, as the Son of God, is every bit as much God as the Father in dignity and in substance, but the Son is subordinate to the Father in authority. And the order of creation of man is not the same as the order of the creation of the rest of nature. The Scripture plainly tells us that Eve was created to be Adam’s helper.

Regarding this whole questioning of Church teaching on this issue, it seems odd to me that anyone, man or woman, would want to be a priest of a religion with which s/he cannot agree in matters of its own basic theology. Either the Church is to be followed in all things concerning faith and morals or in nothing. In all things if it is truly the Church founded by Christ and in nothing if it is not.

As a woman, I would prefer to discuss my life with a female priest who would understand me as a woman.

I think that eventually women will be priests.
Last I heard the Holy Spirit is guiding this thing. Also If you have a brain tumor would you feel the need to discuss it only with someone who’s had a brain tumor ? Or would you want someone who has expertise under the guidance of that same Holy Spirit ?

If you have those needs (to discuss your life only with a woman) you can always go a nun who’s very spiritual and get direction for your life.

I do love being counter cultural and swimming against the tide of political correctness. There’s Truth in having men as Priests, not that every man is a good Priest and it in no way relegates woman to the status of so called second class citizens. We are one body, but my ear has a different function than my hand. God forbid my members should start to revolt the way some have on this topic.

I am amazed every time I hear our parrish priests talk about marriage or sex. Having not been married does not mean that they are no less wise. The wisdom they espouse is truly inspired!

Good point. I think alot of people look at marriage as a legitimate outlet for lust so they just can’t see it in a spiritual sense. If they did, I’d submit they’d be more content and have happier marriages.

I agree that some of them may be wise, probably through the experience of helping many married couples.

But they don’t know first hand what married life is. For them sexuality might be a constant battle with temptation. As a result they might see sexual pleasure as a negative, and teach that sex for pleasure is evil/lustful.

They also cannot possibly understnad sexuality from a woman’s perspective.

I think the Church is all the poorer for a lack fo women/married men in the top levels of authority.

Tell me, in the consecration of the Eucharist, can one consecrate rice cakes and Kool-Aid?

Beer and pretzels?

Irish soda bread and flavored seltzer?

No, it is only unleavened wheat bread (no additives like eggs, milk, sweeteners) and grape wine again with no additives.

That is what is called VALID MATTER.

In order to be a priest in the Roman Catholic Church, the candidate must be a baptized MALE.

NOT a female.

VALID MATTER.

In order to marry in the Catholic Church the couple must be a male and a female–not male/male or female/female.

VALID MATTER.

Q.E.D.

The rest of your post is strawmen. God did not institute the priesthood to the demands of men and women, or for somebody’s “comfort” or to conform to whatever idea of “fairness” existed in HUMAN understanding.

You are wrong. They do know first hand what married life is. They are married to the Church. You have a very shallow view of what Holy Orders are as well as what marriage is.

And since the church does not teach that sex for pleasure is evil, why should the priest?

And why do they need to understand sexuality from a woman’s perspective?

He needs to understand sexuality from the Church’s perspective, not a woman’s. I need a spiritual advisor who tells me that my sex life is in the dumps with my husband not because my libido is off or hubby doesn’t understand a women’s sexuality either but tells me that we do not have a true unitive natue in our marriage because we are not open to life in our lives. And if more people actually went to priests for couseling instead of secular therapists, Catholics would not have such a shameful divorce rate!

God Bless,
Maria

Have a short read of two documents: Inter insigniores by Paul VI, and *Ordinatio sacerdotalis *by JP-2. Your statements indicate that your reaction to this issue is based on some kind of sociological gut reaction rather than on an ontological and sacramental understanding of Priesthood.

Moreover, if you are Catholic and do not know that there are many married priests in the Church, even in the Latin Rite (via the Pastoral Provision), then you really haven’t enough background under your belt to express an opinion on this subject.

I realize that my last sentence might be offensive to you but you really are re-stating a lot of shopworn views here which are not based in a full appreciation of the profound incarnational underpinnings of this teaching.
