I bring things like this to a priest. Perhaps that would be beneficial for you as well.

Again, are you hearing physical voices.

Pope Francis tells us not to dialogue with the devil. Listen to Pope Francis

How do you discern between the voice of God and Satan in your life?
It’s quite simple: I don’t have to. Provided that God never “talks” to me, I don’t get the luxury of needing discernment.
.
God Bless

If you are hearing the voice of God, don’t discuss it with Joy Behar. 😀

It does take practice.
Mark virkner book describes a method.

People in my prayer group when we pray . let 2or 3 prophecy . give an answer and let the others judge.

Most people like getting an answer. From the holy spirit.
If it is edifying exhorting and comfort . its from the h.s.

To summarize Father Lagrange:
  • The human voice urges us to seek a virtue that would be in the middle between what is very bad and what is very good, it is the voice of mediocrity. So the human voice urges us to reject excellence in virtue, that is, the cross of Christ. Because according to the world it is an exaggeration, a scandal, a madness. Thus the human voice will say that to do great penance is not good, and that it is more a sign of pride than a sign of piety.
  • The voice of the devil incites us to extremes that are vices. Thus for a very committed Christian, this voice pushes him to do great penance by pride and when he fails in his penance the same voice of the devil drives him to a great despair
  • The voice of God incites us to practice the true virtue which is the middle between two opposite vices (and not the middle between a very great good and a very great evil as the worldly people think). So someone who follows the voice of God will do a just penance. This penance can be very big or very small, for him it’s not a matter whether penance is great or small, but if it is right.

I’m not sure how to always discern if it definitely IS God, unless He confirms it with accurate prophecy and miraculous signs, but there is a very easy way to know if it’s definitely NOT God, even if there are signs and miracles: If it goes against what God has revealed to the Church and Apostles, that is to say if it contradicts Catholic dogma or moral teaching, it’s not God.

I guess an addition is that if you don’t sin or commit heresy, then as long as you love God evil hasn’t won. Even if things that are inherently neutral and/or true may be used by Satan to get you to swallow the heresy or commit the sin, I think swallowing the heresy or committing the sin is his end game. So even though it’s possible you may be unwittingly following a voice that’s not from God, and is instead from evil spirits or your own human nature, ultimately you will end up following God, and thwarting the evil one, if when the “end game” is finally revealed and you reach the moment of truth, you refuse the sin and reject the heresy, and continue loving God. Anything short of that might be intended, by the evil one, to soften you up so that you WILL sin or believe heresy, but until you’ve actually violated the Faith in some way, you haven’t yet truly given him what he wants. And everything up to that point will have been a waste of time for the purposes of what I believe is his true goal for you: Corruption of your soul.

So in discerning voices, the important questions are: “Does this go against the Church? Do I love God? Am I willingly/knowingly violating love of neighbor?” If the answer is no to the first question, yes to the second, and no to the third, then I believe you won’t be led astray where it truly counts.

You’re saying Lucifer and Satan are not the same person? How are they different?

EDIT: Grammar

I’m not sure I understand how you came to the conclusion that Satan and Lucifer are not the same person.

If it is the evil one, it will try to lead you to things like anger, luxury, pride, immorality…
it is our human passions that incite us to vices, not the devil. It is when we fight effectively against our passions and against the spirit of the world that the devil intervenes himself. Otherwise he does not have time to lose because in many cases, we ourselves lead to sin without his intervention

Discerning the voice of God from satan in one’s life does not always equate to craziness fixed only by anti-psychosis medication. If that is the case then all the prophets and Jesus in the bible were nutcases. Jesus heard from God all the time (satan too!). Mary heard voices. The apostles heard voices.
That is quite true, I have often wondered why some assume hearing spiritual voices denotes to psychosis especially when revered Saints also experienced the same. It is unfortunate that many of the mental health founders where deeply involved in the occult. The concept of hearing spiritual voices has almost hushed many, who fear the label of being mental health or even having a bout of psychosis.

I read an interesting article a while back around MRI scans of people who had long term schizophrenia and on anti-psychotic drugs There was a lot of abnormalities. However these abnormalities where not seen in newly diagnosed schizophrenics who had not commenced on medication. It was felt that much of the damage to schizophrenia was related to the medication they where given and not by the mental health disease. Another study showed that people recovered from schizophrenia without medication with good emotional support. .
