How to End Abortion

Our crisis pregnancy org runs ads during shows like gossip girl. It’s a brilliant idea.

This is such a hard one…I often think of the righteous Gentiles in Germany during the holocaust. Why do some act and some don’t?

When I think of risking imprisonment to fight abortion, I become afraid for my own kids. Would I be neglecting the duties to the children that God has entrusted to me if I become a soldier in the battle to save other children?

Margaret Clitherow spent years away from her kids when she was imprisoned for sheltering priests. And, she eventually died for this heroic work.

But…it’s just hard for me to think of leaving my own kids for periods of time.

Would I have also been inactive during the Holocaust? By the same logic, I would have been.

Something to pray about.

Each of us could fast for one day/month and give the money saved to the campaign of any politician of either party who votes consistently prolife, or to the opponent of one who votes pro-abortion. Not as heroic as some of the brave souls who do sidewalk counseling or picketing, but some of us have one kind of role, and some of us have another.

I wish someone would put together a jar or box like those “rice bowl” boxes for that purpose. But we could each simply put together our own jar. Children could be encouraged to donate to it as well. A nickel here, a quarter there, it all helps.

I love the media ideas. Anyone ever heard of romanticcatholic.com/ these guys? I wear their shirts ALL THE TIME - they’re cool Catholic 😃 , and get the message across without being out-of-date. These are the kind of shirts we need. Maybe if we contacted them, they would be willing to do a shirt at a discount rate so more people would wear them.

I also really like the Rice Bowl idea. What if we all fasted once a month and gave the money to plastering pro-life ads everywhere? They’re free speech - I saw an electronic billboard the other day outside of Richmond VA (on 95) that said you could “rent this space for 100 dollars a day!” What if we paid to have an ad there? Thousands would see it every day. And think about those black-and-white God billboards. We could do it if we had the money …

Beautiful’s links show what mass action could do. Now we need someone to lead it, and a place to start.

What should the Germans have done to try to stop the Holocaust? The answer to this question should give us an idea of what we should be doing.

Think about it.

Pentecostbaby,
There are a number legal ways to approach the problem of abortion. It seems that you would like to get involved. Try seeking out an already established pro-life organization in your area . You can find out what others are already doing. Maybe together you can make a difference.

I agree,
There are many ways to help end abortion.

The more the way conforms to the sacrifice of Christ (Perfect Love)
No matter how small,
Can have a great effect.

Much more than the spiritual sacrifices and fasts,
Done without love,
By certain abortionists.

I think to end aboriton we need to make it as repugnant and unneccessary as possible.

To do this we need education in schools, not “sex ed” and this business of throwing condoms and pills at hormonally out of control bodies controled by immature minds - but real “sex ed” where these kids are taught the reality and stupidity of pre-marital sex and the horrors it can bring to one’s life. They need to be taught how much better if it is for self esteem and confidence to value themselves based on their mind, ideas, personality and not their body. They need to be taught what abortion can do, the pain it causes the unborn and the life long suffering it causes the mother.

Then, we need to make it easy for a woman to have her child. We need to push for laws that make it mandatory for a decent chunk of maternity leave, where businesses can’t penalise women for leaving to have children by harming their career opportunities when they return.

Free maternity care.

Care and assistance after the child’s birth. Budgeting advice, helping them get an education, helping them cont their career or get a job, helping them wiht social activities and time out. Social worker and counselling interventions for families that are in “crisis” because of said pregnancy - parents of pregnant teens need love, support and the knowledge that its not the end of the world, their daughter’s life won’t be ruined and that they have a grandchild who needs their help, not a drive to the local aboriton mill.

We need to get father’s educated as to their responsibilites and to be “men” to be taught they need to stand up and protect their children and the women they get preggo.

Adoption needs to be made a more attractive option.

We need to work hard to remove this stigma of being a teen mum or preg out of wedlock from a one night stand or something. Which is not pushing to condone these activities, rather, teachign society that if a woman makes a mistake she shouldnt’ have to kill her child for it.

Protesting at clinics is all very well and good and I support it, but right now it seems to be the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff.

A couple years ago I read of a group that rented some office space next door to or in the same building where an abortion mill was located. The strategy was this: offer Mass in that office at least once every day and staff it with volunteers throughout the day who would come in shifts to pray constantly throughout the day. By following that strategy religiously I believe the abortion mill shut down in six or nine months.

Does anybody remember reading of that? I don’t recall where it was except that it was in the middle part of the country somewhere.
Does anybody know the obstacles in bringing the Eucharist to the streets near abortion mills?

Has anyone tried?

What should the Germans have done to try to stop the Holocaust? The answer to this question should give us an idea of what we should be doing.

Think about it.
It would have been useless to pass laws banning the killing of Jews. Until the hearts and minds of the people were changed all such a law would have done is force those who wanted to kill Jews to do it in back alleys.

Does anyone think this is overkill?
Not really, no. Why not bring the Eucharist? Imagine if you were a fallen-away Catholic and you went to get an abortion - and you saw a priest holding a monstrance. Might really stop you in your tracks, huh? Especially if that priest is surrounded by people who are willing to:
give you a place to stay
help you with your medical care
help you learn to parent or adopt
help you find a job or education
etc.

It is simply a matter of doing it. The problem is, is that we won’t do it.

My pro life group meets once a month for 2 hours. Just enough time to pat one’s own self on the back and tell themselves that they did their part.

People yell and spit at us and curse us, and we smile at them. We say nothing. (Except for me of course, and I am disliked because of it, but anyway)

With a cause like abortion, civil disobedience is a small price to pay, as far as I am concerned. The real concern is the lack of guts and complacency.

Then what would be the most practical way of doing this?

We would need the help of a priest.
We would need to consider laws governing protests.
We would need to consider ways of making it easy enough for others who would find it difficult.

I suspect there may be some who would need to sacrifice more than others to make it work.

Any other issue?

Any ideas?

Pray. Pray more. Made blind and deaf by The Liar they neither see the blood nor hear the cries of the murdered children. Pray that eyes are opened and ears are listening. Pray that doctors put away their knives. Pray that mothers love their babies more than they love themselves. Pray that the Truth of Life is followed than the Lie of Death. God is Truth. God is Life.

If you block entrance to an abortion clinic you will be removed. So on the tactical level this strategy will fail.

The hope is to make enough of a nuisance of yourself that it gets wider play, and that your non-violent action gets portrayed as heroic?

Here’s a dirty little secret about Ghandi: his tactics only worked because he faced an enemy who respected them. The abortionists, the press corps, and the Democrats do not respect you if you are a pro-lifer. If you block entrance to the clincs they will pillory and ridicule you. You will be played as someone against honest young women in distress.

You’d have to focus it beyond the clinic doors, focus on the babies trying to be born rather than the troubled mothers who want to abort them. You’d have to block the rooms where they go to kill the babies that survive abortion, for example. But you don’t have access to those rooms.

Ultrasounds. Sonograms. Real evidence that babies in the womb are actually babies, recognizably human, not tissue. Throw the focus on the babies instead of making yourself problems for the mothers, and that’s how you will win.

We want to save children, not obstruct women. Make that clear.

There have to be priests out there who would help. I know of two who would be right there but for the fact that they are both here on green cards (and we are very blessed to have them). Neither would accomplish anything by being deported. But there must be others.

Laws governing protests: you have the right to freedom of assembly. If that assembly is obstructing someone’s entry into an abortion clinic, it’s illegal. Hence we would be taken to jail. We would need people to take our place - lots and lots of them.

Make it easy: if there are enough people, it will be. The key is to make sure that those who do go to jail are taken care of by those who do not. For example, if a parent goes, their spouse must have help from others. We need defense lawyers who will work pro-bono. We need people who are willing to post bail.

Some will sacrifice more than others. But that’s what we’re called to do - God calls us each in His own way. Some are called to do things that others cannot.

They didn’t respect Gandhi. But you can only fight against good for so long before you become ashamed of yourself. The English certainly didn’t respect the Indians - that’s why they colonized them in the first place.

We’re Catholics. Christ led the way for us to be pilloried and ridiculed. The least we can do is to bear the same for Him.

What can we do if we expose the Blessed Sacrament daily?
