How to explain, Why God Created Us?

We were watching ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ TV show, and his child asked him why God put us here? The show revolved around all the questions they did not know the answer to. I was wondering, how would one best articulate this to children or confirmation students?

In my humble opinion, the Baltimore Catechism said it best:

1. Q. Why did God make you?
   A. God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him for ever in heaven.
