My dear friend, before you can defend or explain the faith you must KNOW it yourself. Inside and out.

I would start by studying. Study until your brain explodes. Then pray and finally trust the Lord to give you the right words… and/or to know when to stay silent. Sometimes we teach through our mistakes, sometimes we teach in our triumphs and sometimes we teach in our silence.

nicky is right, friend. At the moment your task is to sit at the feet of Jesus, listen and learn. There will come a time for proclaimation, but not yet. The only defense of the Eucharist you need make at the moment is ’ anything less would not be worthy of God’s love for us’. Be at peace.🙂

I’d ask them to read through John 6 with the realization that the majority of the people in the crowd was so disturbed as Jesus’ words that they left Him. And then, Jesus turns and asks the Apostles if they wished to leave as well. (Jesus stuck to His guns on this issue).
and think we have to go through priest to talk to god.
We don’t have to go through a priest to pray, however we do take Scripture literal concerning the forgiveness of sin through His priests.
When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, “Shalom.
As the Father has sent Me, so I send you.”
And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them,
“Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,
and whose sins you retain are retained.”
~ John 20:19-23
Jesus’ statement pertained only to the Apostles and to those people the Apostles’ layed hands upon and ordained into the priesthood.

And, that remains true today of course in the Catholic Church.

There is a thread about

Holy Communion = cannibalism?

started yesterday that explains it well. 🙂

John 6 isn’t going to convince anyone.😉

Print and give them these to read:

As for having to talk to a God through a priest tell them that is just plain wrong and is not what Catholicism teaches at all. We pray directly to god. Perhaps they are thinking about the necessity and sacrament of Confession.

There are many threads on CAF that deal with the Real Presence, just search for them
and you find a ton. In fact this is the best way to learn since there are so many
who take an oposing view, and then these are handled as well. Then you can select the
arguments that strike you as the most convencing in a file for future reference. I’m sure
once you try this, you will be repeating it often.
