How to find a confession booth?

I’ve never seen them used here, and I’ve never been comfortable with face-to-face confession.

The college church I used to attend used them for storage:eek: .

I’m in San antonio, tx, and would love it if anyone knew a church that still did confession like this!
 
Our Parish does not have a booth - but, has behind the screen confession.

You walk into the room and there is a wall with a screen between you and Father. The same room is used for face to face, the penitent would walk around the wall and there is a chair set up across from Father.

Just because you do not see a booth does not mean there is not a way to be anonymous - call the Parish office and ask 🙂
 
I believe that it is a requirement that confession be offered anonymously; generally a screen will suffice. And the priest should be sitting behind it when you walk in the room. It should not be situated in such a way that you have to pass him and an empty chair in order to get behind the screen! (I only mention this because I once attended confession at a church where the “anonymous” confession was set up like this, LOL.😃 )

With the abuse scandals and discussions about priestly celibacy, putting man and woman (or a child) together in a small room just never made sense to me. The old fashioned confessional, where the priest is in his own ‘box’ is my favorite.

The last time I was in Rome, I took photos of all the beautiful, carved, wooden confessionals I could find!

It was precisely for the purpose of propriety that the custom of confessional booths started in the west.

The Eastern practice is that confessions are heard in the church, usualy before the Iconostas.
 
The big beautiful Temple at EWTN has the Confession Booths, they are so beautiful! Wish all churches still had these, one of our parish priests, unfortuately not at the church we belong to just ordered one for his parish. Our current parish had it in a room and right when you walk in is a wall with the screen and then if you go a little further in the room the chair is there if you want to do a face to face which I don’t think I will ever do.
