I believe I am at a point where a spiritual advisor would be extremely beneficial - how does one go about it?

There were several threads to do with this topic. You may want to do a search.

The most important thing is to pray about it, asking for God’s guidance. You may also start with your pastor, asking him to point direction.

Forgive me if I’m hijacking, but a related question… I am at that point, as well.

Is it taboo for a woman to have a priest as a spiritual director? I am considering asking a previous pastor whom I had a good rapport with, but my husband says this would be inappropriate.

I can’t imagine why it would be wrong for a woman to have a male (priest) SD. I have a priest, and he hears my confessions.

I found mine by calling the Diocese office and asking if there was someone they could recommend. They gave me the names of two priests in my area who had training in SD, and I contacted one of them. I’ve been going for about 7 months now.

I’m at the same place and have wanted one for a little over a year.

Anyway, I leave near a Convent and I was thinking about calling and checking there…

As for a SD, um…is the norm to give them a little money every now and then, or gifts…I know according to the Church, clergy can not ask for money. Religious sisters or brothers probably can…I don’t know…just something that I was thinking about today as well.

Would a Priest be the spiritual director, or if they are all “booked” would they recommend someone??
