Hi,

I realized yesterday (Mother’s Day) that I have not asked to have a mass offered up for my grandmother who died about 20 years ago. I guess I haven’t because I converted from my baptist upbringing to catholicism 5 years ago and I didn’t like thinking about the idea that my grandmother isn’t in heaven. Along with that if my family, all baptists, found out they will be offended.

However I have decided to ask for a mass to be offered for her, but how do I? Should I, or do I have to make an offering? that will be difficult because I’m currently unemployed.

Well Thanks for all your help,
Daniel

Just call you parish office and ask. They may not be able to give you a date right away. There shouldn’t be any stipulated ‘price’ for this, but you can make an offering. The last time I asked for a mass, I only happened to have $5 in my purse, so that is all I gave.

Ask your Priest or even at the Parish Office. They can set it up for you. It may not be on the date you wish, but they can get it taken care of.

If you get on a mailing list with most seminaries, missionaries, you will be getting opportunities to have masses said all the time.

Or as the previous responses have said, go to the rectory office during regular business hours and you can ask for a mass to be said. At our parish the usual stipend offered is $10
