Hello all, I was reading the Enchiridion of Indulgences and noticed that we have a chance to gain a Plenary Indulgence today for the Feast of St. Peter and Paul by using any “article of devotion” (defined as “crucifix or cross, rosary, scapular or medal”) that “has been blessed by the Sovereign Pontiff or by any Bishop”. The Enchiridion says,

But if the article of devotion has been blessed by the Sovereign Pontiff or by any Bishop, the faithful, using it devoutly, can also gain a plenary indulgence on the feast of the Holy Apostles, Peter and Paul, provided they also make a profession of faith according to any legitimate formula.

So to get the Plenary you just need to
  • use the article of devotion today that has been blessed by the Pope or any Bishop
  • make a profession of faith (by saying the Creed or the Profession of Faith)
  • complete the normal conditions for a Plenary by receiving communion, reciting (out loud) a prayer for the Holy Father’s intentions, and going to Confession, all either today or within a few days before or after today, and also having no attachment to sin, even venial sin.
Many of us have some of these “objects of devotion” around the house that were blessed by the Pope or by a Bishop, Cardinal etc. I just used my Miraculous Medal that a Cardinal happened to bless because I had it on when he blessed holy objects for people attending his Mass. So use them today and get the indulgence for yourself or a soul in Purgatory.

Could you define “use”? I understand how to use rosary beads, but how would one use, say, a medal of St. Anthony blessed by JPII?

You could wear the medal today and perhaps look at it piously while saying some prayers to Jesus and St. Anthony and Saint Pope JPII.

I am wearing my two Miraculous Medals (One blessed by the Cardinal and one by Pope Francis) around my neck today as Our Lady directed, so I figure that counts as “using” those. Also said my Pope-blessed rosary earlier.
