Welcome!
Well, what would you consider to be feelings of love? Thanks for all the relpies! Iâll type up something a little longer as soon as I have a chance, but in the meantime I had a couple thoughts
I guess you could say the Christ is the bridegroom, as he stated, but it is actually an arranged marriage where you just do what youâve got to do and hopefully the love/passion will come in time?
According to EWTN, the âHail Maryâ dates back to the second century, and the first reference to the rosary was with St. Dominic who died in 1221. It has been around for a very long time, long before many modern day churches even came into existence which typically condemn it.Why the Rosary?
We were given 15 promises with the rosary where Mary promised devotees that she would intervene and help them. ewtn.com/vexperts/showmessage.asp?number=438582How will reciting the hail Mary a gazillion times make me feel closer to God?
God often didnât do everything directly. Even with the Blessed Virgin Mary, God didnât speak to her, directly. Instead, he sent the Angel Gabriel, and that was the Blessed Virgin Mary! That is an honest question about something I have never had explained Would it not make more sense to pray to God/Jesus directly to lead me to to what I am looking for?
I have sometimes gone to different Catholic Churches, because I donât always find the right fit the first time.I will type more later, but I am commited to staying with the Catholic faith but I just have never found anything about it that really draws me in. It is more about the sense of community for me than the institution of the church tgat keeps me going.
I know EXACTLY what you feel. To the extent that I went astray for 20 yrs. The standing/kneeling/sitting motions during my teenage years, were âidioticâ in my view at that time. But I am thankful God did not abandon me during my dark years. Now I am learning more about my faith, I feel closer to Him than at any time previously. However during my dark years, I still do my prayers almost daily. Our Father, Hail Mary, My Guardian Angel. These were my prayers I clung to during those years. So I was born and raised Catholic, I have completed all my sacraments so far, including marriage and I send my kids to a Catholic School. In spite of all this I would say I have just gone through the motions my whole life and I have never felt a connection to God through the Catholic Church. I pretty much feel nothing at Church. Ever since I was a kid it has just felt very sterile and institutionalized. I went to Catechism my entire childhood and the entire decade or so I went all I remember is having âJesus loves youâ and âMary loves youâ drilled into my head and hearing lots of stories about shepherds and stuff, but nothing with any depth and I can say for a fact that we never cracked open a bible. I recall that when I asked specific questions they were always like âwhat are you talking aboutâ.

What does God care if I kneel and stand at the appointed times? Why do I have to spend an âappropriateâ amount of time kneeling after communion, even if I am done praying? Or what if I wanted to pray standing up- will God not listen to me if I am not on my knees? Does God really care if I prefer to fold my hands when praying the Our Father rather than raise them like everyone else? Why does it please God more if we have to listen to music in church that was clearly written by folk artists from the 1970âs? How does anyone know a Gregorian Chant if most pleasing to god? Why are there so many different prayers and creeds we are expected to recite when Jesus himself instructed the disciples that the Lordâs Prayer is the only properly way to pray to God? I have a million questions and doubts in regard to the Catholic Church as an institution. I try to get what I can out of the short homily on the Arch Diocese approved topic of the week and then I spend the rest of mass conversing with God in my head, daydreaming or looking around at the statues and stained glass windows. Has the Catholic Church become like the Pharisees and Scribes who Jesus condemned for putting the âlawâ above the word of God? Is this how it is supposed to be? Why do I feel this way?

In spite of my Catholic faith, I do firmly believe in God and that salvation comes through Jesus alone. I read the Bible and I try to keep a âBiblical World Viewâ. I am about 90% in when it comes to believing in the bible as the infallible and literal word of god. But I donât feel close to God. I am still waiting for my âroad to Damascus momentâ and I just donât think that I will get there through the Catholic Church. What do I do?
I agree it how you approach the Eucharist - its a real communion with Christ - if you donât believe Jesus is there you will get nothing out of Mass - its the main reason why we go- to become one with Christ and to accept and offer ourself to God - which should be done at every communion . Every communion is a moment with Christ.I think many of the OPâs problems would be solved if he accepted the fact that the Eucharist IS Our Lord Jesus Christ. Itâs not symbolic, itâs not a reenactment, it really IS his body and blood that he sacrificed to save us. Is Mass starting to feel a bit more special now? Every portion of a mass comes from 2000 years of tradition, and the one billion Catholics worldwide all do the exact same things as you do on Sunday. We are truly one holy and apostolic Church. You REALLY are consuming Christ every Sunday, who REALLY did die for your salvation. Iâll ask again:
Does mass feel more special now?
EDIT: Iâll just add that I felt the exact same way about the rosary until I started doing it myself every night. Itâs amazing how much it quiets your mind.
Please note the tone of your questionsâor perhaps rather, the perspective. Thanks for all the relpies! Iâll type up something a little longer as soon as I have a chance, but in the meantime I had a couple thoughts

Goya, I just canât smile big enough! Love this!^^Supplement to the above:
Didnât mean to suggest that weâre not there to receive anythingâwe areâChrist, in the EucharistâI mean to say that is secondary.
Thatâs why communion comes after the offertory; itâs why the Sacrifice of the Mass in the Eucharist, can not be, until after the offertory (of the bread and wine). We must give firstâthen, we may receive.
Also note:
The etymology of the word âEucharistâ, is Greek for âthanks givingâ.
We are there to give thanks.
âŚthen we are blessed to receive Christâin the Eucharist.
Thank you.Goya, I just canât smile big enough! Love this!![]()

First pray for grace. Donât expect it to come quickly. Then begin to investigate your faith. You will be amazed what you donât know. Then the more you learn the more your faith begins to grow and before you know it you feel God more and more.So I was born and raised Catholic, I have completed all my sacraments so far, including marriage and I send my kids to a Catholic School. Good advice. Just do it, Norm! And God Bless you with faith, strength, peace, hope and love (that you can feel and see!)Norm the Robot
What you are describing is burn out or boredom. I can see why. You are an adult with reason and you donât know the reasons. The only way out of this is to read material about your faith to upgrade your knowledge which you need for fulfillment as an adult.
But this will only happen gradually because we grow in knowledge. So take it piecemeal and donât be frustrated if you think you should know more because it will only come over study and time.
I believe what you are having is a wakeup call from the Holy Spirit telling you to do something about it because continuing in this manner will not be beneficial for your life in God.
I donât want to make you fearful, but the fact is, what we donât use we loose. It is sort of a principle in the spiritual life that we either go forward or we slip backward. It is the old adage of âthe poor get poorer, and the rich get richer.â
Be sure and take this sign you are experiencing seriously. Just start reading about your faith, either books or periodicals. Even it if is only a littleâŚjust keep feeding your mind and soul.
The Mass has no meaning to someone who knows nothing about it. Just as a precious coin has no value to someone who doesnât see its value. And I donât believe just telling you to pray more is going to make up for the lack of knowledge you seem to have. That wasnât said in criticism but just in recognition of what has happened.
And the very first thing to do is go to confession if you think you need to do so.
Here is a place to start learning.

May God bless and keep you. May Godâs face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.
