How to go about this?

I want to recieve more often the Sacrements of Confession and Communion. At this moment I don’t have a pattern, usually it is confession every 2 months and communion 2-3 times during this period. I had the idea/inspiration to be able to go to communion on any occasion and, in consequence, go to confession every time that I need to. However, I don’t know if this would be wise, given the fact that I suffer from scrupulosity and I don’t want to make things worse. I don’t have a spiritual director/regular confessor, but maybe I should ask some priest about this. I am also curious about your opinions. If you don’t mind sharing, how often do you go to confession and recieve communion? A priest has helped you decide on the frequency or it is your personal choice?

I’d suggest finding a priest to be your spiritual director and confessor.

You should definitely discuss this with your spiritual director or confessor.
I try to always use the same priest ( so they get to know you ), and I have confession face-to-face ( again so he gets to know you ), and I go every 2-3 weeks.

Using the same priest is desirable, but not always possible due either to his schedule or mine; but I find having a regular confessor who knows me well has helped me to grow spiritually.

I have to start by saying I am not scrupulous.

I confess weekly to my spiritual director, who insists upon this frequency. I am, however, ending that relationship on Wednesday (long story) so I will probably switch to an every-two-weeks confession schedule thereafter.

I receive Communion daily unless I’m not properly disposed (i.e. I have unconfessed mortal sin on my soul), which does not happen often—in the past twelve months it’s been the case twice. Attending Mass every day is now my choice, but a priest was the first to suggest it. He did so in response to some spiritual difficulty I was going through at the time. That was a little over a year ago. At first I thought he was nuts but it turned out to be the right thing for me in the end…so right for me that since he made the suggestion this priest appointed me his sacristan and now I prepare almost all his Masses. He offers the Mass at least once a day.

Since you suffer from scrupulosity, I strongly urge you to find a spiritual director, preferably a priest who can also be your regular confessor, and do exactly as he says. This should help you manage your scrupulous tendencies and, hopefully and eventually, overcome them.

Praying for you!

Since you suffer from scrupulosity, you should get the advice of a priest, and only a priest.

Talk to your Priest first.

I understand it that a very traditional recommendation is that monthly confession is recommended for all.
Some people benefit from weekly confession - this should be available - especially if it scheduled confession times.

If you go to confession on Saturday Mornings, then you should have a good chance of being in a state of grace by Sunday Morning.

I also an encourage you to have a regular confessor. My priest has told me to confess once a month. I attend Mass and re wive every Sunday. I often attend Saturday daily Mass and during the school year get to daily mass at least once during the week.

You say you suffer from scrupulosity. You should talk to a priest then and not us.

Thank you all for the replies! It’s true that I should take a decision only after talking to a priest about this. I was also curious about the how frequent other people were receiving the Sacrements.

I have shared my own experience elsewhere and since you suffer from scrupulosity will not do so here. You really need to seek the advice of a priest.
