Anyone else have difficulty or feel like they’re not preparing or growing, or contemplating, as well as they could be for the coming of Christ and taking in its significance during the approaching season of Advent? Do you have some advice on how to spend Advent more worthily this year?? Books, practices, anything?

It is swiftly approaching! Thanks and a Blessed coming advent to you all :snowing:

I never, ever, ever feel that I am doing pretty much anything in the way of spiritual growth :o

As for Advent, I used to always try to do outward things – Advent wreaths and things like that. Didn’t do much for me, even when I did remember to say the prayers and light the candles (and similar things for our other family activities).

Honestly, what’s worked best for me – and what I’m planning on doing this year – is praying part of the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) each day. I wake up pretty early everyday, so I like to pray the Office of Readings and Lauds. I like to give something up, like a “mini-Lent” and add prayer.

And if it’s just hard for you to really wrap your head around the whole waiting-for-the-Messiah aspect of Advent, just spend some time watching the morning or evening news. Make a list and then pray the rosary.

You could read a whole lot of my and other people’s suggestions, but it really comes down to listening to the leading of the Holy Spirit. He’ll never let you down 👍

God bless you!!

Thanks so far for the advice Hazcompat and Gertie. I feel I need to really resink my roots deep again into fertile soil and hidden springs. So… God Willing, it will come to pass this advent if I can apply myself a little bit.

One thing I’ve done is by planning to get all of my Christmas shopping done before the start of Advent, and I’m almost there. I also have a new book that even happens to be showcased on the spriitual direction website Hazcompat offered. It’s called “Meditations for Advent” by Jaque Bousset.

Thanks again.
