How does one make an Act of Spiritual Communion? I’d prefer answers to come from an authoritative document, an authoritative person, or the Saints.

Thanks in advance! 🙂

I’m not sure why you need documents etc. All that is needed is the desire for spiritual communion. Pray, tell the Lord you you love him and long for him in the Sacrament and that you desire a communion with him even if you cannot share in the Eucharist.

It’s a devotion. You won’t find authoritative documents on this.

It’s a pretty simple matter. You pray and meditate on it. Generally during Communion at Mass when you can’t receive, or at any other time.

I guess you will never be able to do one if there aren’t any authoritative writings on it. Sorry.

friendship

CCC 2347 The virtue of chastity blossoms in friendship. It shows the disciple how to follow and imitate him who has chosen us as his friends,134 who has given himself totally to us and allows us to participate in his divine estate. Chastity is a promise of immortality.
Chastity is expressed notably in friendship with one’s neighbor. Whether it develops between persons of the same or opposite sex, friendship represents a great good for all. It leads to spiritual communion.

Thanks everyone! I didn’t realize that there was no actual set words. I thought that it was like an Act of Contrition, an Act of Charity, etc. 🙂 Thanks again!

I asked of this for days that there isn’t a Mass.

And even those prayers have variations. I’ve written my own and made them up on the spot too! If you want to make An Act of Charity (for example) and can’t remember the “set” words, pray from your heart.

Act of Spiritual Communion
by St. Alphonsus Liguori (A.D. 1696-1787)

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire you in my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though you were already there, I embrace you and unite myself wholly to you; permit not that I should ever be separated from you.

St Alphonsus Ligouri has a great devotional book for Eucharistic Visits called Visits To The Blessed Sacrament and the Blessed Virgin Mary
.

For each of the 31 days of the month, St. Alphonsus provides for us a “Visit to Our Lord” - which is a brief meditation on and a fervent prayer of love toward Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Each Visit to Our Lord is followed by a “Visit to Our Lady.” The latter are short meditations on and prayers of great confidence in her powerful help - even for the most wretched and forsaken on sinners. At each Visit, the reader is to make an “Act of Spiritual Communion,” which will help enflame his heart with greater love of God.

Small enough to keep in my car’s glovebox. 🙂
