Hey guys! So this is a thread about how to manage and get the most out of prayer time. I’ll start off by saying that the purpose of this thread isn’t about me going “aw man, I would pray but I am too busy, shucks!” Nope. My issue is managing the actual time I am praying between God, the Blessed Virgin, Guardian Angel, and Saint Benedict (one of my favorite saints).

So at night I can usually spend around 30- 45 minutes of heartfelt praying before I start nodding off.

Mornings I am usually slow to wake up. I try waking up at 5:30 but fail every time because my alarm clock doesn’t wake me up all the way. Probably around 20-25 minutes of prayer mornings.

How do I manage this time to fit God, our Immaculate Mother, my Guardian Angel, and St. Benedict in my prayer time? The adversary has caught me lacking in prayer so I need to build up my good habits again. I find it discouraging when all of my time I use praying to God and then I have like 5 minutes left to pray to Our Lady. Then I don’t even mention my Guardian Angel nor St. Benedict.

Wow ! You’ve inspired me ! I’m impressed by your diligence - and perseverance 🙂

I don’t have time. I’m too busy posting on CAF all day and night.

Pray without ceasing and in all circumstances give thanks. All prayer is, is you talking to God. It can be as little as a couple seconds to the half hour mark. I pray whenever I am empty minded, helps not only me, but its good for our relationship with God. We can pray in increments throughout the day. A good example is like the rosary, if we get distracted, there is nothing that says we cant pick up where we left off. Prayer is just that, talking with the Almighty. As long as we give attention to our Father, we fufilled prayer.

I have always wondered and wondered about “ pray without ceasing “ - I barely do …ten minutes a day…that changes !

Hi. Praise the Lord.

An old book, Hungry for God by Ralph Martin, now sold by Amazon, did give me some very good pointers on personal prayer life, in my early years.

Personal prayer is always a struggle for me. When the time is good, like when I’m high in the Spirit, prayer is usually not a problem. However, sustaining it into a consistent activity in daily life, is.

There’s one method, that is to set a specific time for daily personal prayer, and stick to it no matter what.

Another is that our life is a prayer - we pray anytime, anywhere, and everything we do we lift and offer them as our prayers.

Both are good for me except when I am struggling, when I experience dryness.

In any case, to me it’s often a mid-way beteeen both, faithfulness being the key to keep to my personal prayer life going.

God bless.

Ever have a friend you could enjoy being with without talking? If you have, then you know what I’m talking about. You can carry on entire conversations without ever speaking a word. Try letting this account for some of your prayer time. Words always fall short of what’s in the heart. Just let your love for God and the Saints shine from you to them. You might be amazed at what shines back.

I think I now know what “ pray without ceasing “ is.
What wonderful advice - Old Colonel !

You can pray some aspirations which are short little prayers or verses like " Jesus meek and humble of Heart make my heart like Your Heart" or “Mary conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to you.” You can say the first decade of the Rosary during after your morning prayers and try to say a decade whenever you get the chance. Perhaps for your patron saint and guardian angel you can say a set the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory be whole you meditate on something pertaining to them.

Two books that helped me:

“Time for God” by Fr Jacques Phillipe

“Deep Conversion, Deep Prayer” by Fr Dubay

For some it is first thing, for others mid day, yet others pray last thing at night. There is no one size fits all.

I tried this before. I usually either start to fall back asleep or say the same thing over and over again. Or both.
