I’m not going to extrapolate because it is a very long story, but essentially I cheated on someone emotionally for a long period of time and am now out of both relationships
i regret it so much and I’m just trying to right my wrongs and offer everything up to God
I know this pain demands to be felt I just feel so hopeless
I don’t really know what I’m asking for by posting but if anyone has anything to say please do

First (and always) remember that God loves you. He wants the best for you and is always available so just humble yourself and sincerely repent your sins.

We all make mistakes; it’s what we do after the mistake that can make us a better or worse person. How do you choose to move forward from here?

I suggest you pray to God for wisdom, forgiveness, and compassion for those you may have hurt by your action. Take the strength the Lord gives you and ask for forgiveness from them as well not expecting anything in return. You may not be forgiven but remember that is not in your control; they have the power to forgive you for the hurt you may have caused them.

God Bless you for seeking out advice. It’s not easy to admit you are wrong in such a public place and I pray that you will choose to be a better person.

I feel so debilitated. I don’t want to make any excuses but as I’m learning to understand why I did things I realize just how lonely I am.

People say you have to be strong in yourself after a relationship, but how do I reconcile that with being dependent on God?

Also, does anyone have any particular suggestions for prayers etc? I’ve mainly been praying the Rosary and offering it up for the two people I hurt but it’s hard to always be reminded of that.

I have been attending daily mass and trying to cultivate my interior life more; I was thinking of doing some volunteer work with Vinnies. I just need some encouragement I guess…

All I can say is that if the person(s) who hurt me in my life were taking responsibility for their part in the mess, and they were seeking forgiveness from not just me but from God, I would be very happy. Because my suffering might have more meaning, because it would be good for me to know that those that caused pain were intending to avoid causing future pain.

How much do you intend to do to avoid future hurts? What could you do to increase success in your intentions?

I just want to lose all sense of selfishness and be God’s instrument. I have so much regret because my ex had grown so much since we first broke up but I was already involved with someone else. I lacked the courage to tell her. I just want to stop being selfish.

My opinion here, not some edict from on high:

You will not be “completed” by another human being. The best thing any man or woman can do is learn to respect themselves, be their own best friends, enjoy their own company, find the world interesting and engaging as an individual.

If something else comes your way you won’t be trying to fill up a hole, you’ll be able to give and share freely instead of being needy and dependent.

We don’t get our worth from the outside.

Waiting, I am in the same boat. I have no doubt of God’s forgiveness, but I know the people I have hurt will never forgive me, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forgive myself.

So I am trying to stay close to God, and be the person I used to be, before this terrible mess. That’s all I can do.
Prayers for you, my friend.

All of us are sinners who have missed the mark and fallen short of the glory of God. That’s why Jesus came to earth. But none of us this side of death is beyond salvation. God’s mercy and forgiveness knows no bounds.

Keep availing yourself of the sacraments, particularly regular Confession and frequent Communion. God makes that grace of forgiveness available to all of us. He forgives you, too.

With your faith in God, you are never alone. Talk to your parish priest or parish administrator. There is so much support for parishioners I’m sure you’ll find one or two groups who are welcoming and understanding. Although it may seem to you that you’ve done bad things and should isolate yourself, I would highly caution against that. Wallowing in self-pity is never constructive and not what God would tell us to do.

Instead, seek out others with the intent of helping others and not yourself. Find the joy of doing God’s work and, in the process, allow yourself to be healed by the Holy Spirit.

God Bless you.

I suppose we just wait for God to heal us 🙂
In the meantime I’ve been trying to do some volunteer work and frequent the sacraments
How are you coping?
