How to Move to the Eastern Rite

IMHO, you seem a little bitter about all things Latin… and it seems like you’re putting an inordinate amount of emphasis on HOW the Mass is celebrated. As long as it’s a valid Mass, it’s the same Eucharist and the same Christ, and whether it’s celebrated in Latin English or in the eastern rite, that is cause for joy, not bitterness.
Please don’t misunderstand. Perhaps I should clarify. See, when I say I am a Latin Rite Catholic, I do not mean I attend a Tridentine Mass; there are currently none in my area. But I am a Roman Catholic. Maybe I’ve muddled the correct terminology.

However, in my beginnings of Catholicism, I became a very adamantly pro-Latin-speaking-Tridentine-traditionalist. And I’m not now suggesting that is wrong, just that my own spirituality no longer finds relevance there. Like I said, I could go into the reasons if anyone wishes.

So I agree wholeheartedly that all these different Masses are legitimate. There is no bitterness involved. I’m sorry if that is what seemed communicated. I just now have a rather convinced view of how various liturgies should be relevant to their population.

In fact, when it comes to the Eastern rites, liturgy takes second place to me, just behind the theology I find to be more akin to how my mind is currently thinking of the faith.

I hope you participate in the thread entitled “ON THE FENCE.”

Thanks in advance.

As bpbasilphx said, there are no “Eastern Rites.” Please call them what they are, Eastern Churches.👍

Solution: Continue your Sunday obligation and continue as a Latin Rite Catholic (since there are no Eastern Catholic churches) and I’ll go one step farther–instead of attending only Vespers or Matins, attend an Eastern Orthodox Divine Liturgy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. You obviously don’t receive Communion, but you are right, the Byzantine Liturgy is beautiful as none other–it’s, well, divine and totally 100% different from a Tridentine Mass. The Only Begotten Son and Cherubic Hymn, in my opinion, don’t have a Roman counterpart (although many of the 1962 Missal prayers are astounding), but even the icons and the iconostasis, as well as the dome with the Pantokrator (spelling?) just have no equivalent in the Latin church.

I do this with the full consent of my director (Roman Catholic priest).

Glad
