Today I formed the resolution that I would try, as far as possible, to obtain an indulgence each day for the Poor Souls. I would like to have the requirements for gaining an indulgence, printed on a little card or sheet. Of course I could just jot them on a piece of paper, but it would be nice to have them on a pretty laminated card, like the prayer cards you always find in Catholic book shops.

Has anyone ever seen such a thing? Thank you.

When you say “an” indulgence I assume you are referring to a plenary indulgence. An easy means of obtaining countless partial indulgences is the repetition of ejaculatory prayers. Some examples:
  • My Jesus, mercy!
  • Jesus, I trust in You!
  • Sorrowul and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!
There is nothing easier than acquiring hundreds or even thousands of partial indulgences every day by means of such powerful little prayers. The Holy Souls will be forever indebted to you if you offer them your indulgences. This will gain for you an ocean of graces, including a tender protection from Our Lady, who is always looking for generous souls to help her liberate the Holy Souls from their prison of fire.

There are a few requirements that apply in order to gain any indulgence - these are in addition to the specific work that the indulgence applies to. I believe they are:

To recite one Our Father and one Hail Mary for the intentions of the pope
To receive Holy Communion, preferably on the same day
To receive sacramental confession, traditionally within 8 days although current Church law says it must be within 20 days at the most

One must also be free from all attachment to sin, in order to gain a plenary indulgence. This requirement does not apply to partial indulgences.

These are the requirements I had in mind when I wrote my original post.

Thanks to all.

I skimmed through the links that user McCartney posted - looks like I was wrong in my understanding. The requirements that I listed are for plenary indulgences only. The requirements for partial indulgences are much simpler, basically just to be in a state of grace, to perform the indulgenced act, and to have the intention of gaining the indulgence.

Thanks for the information.
